Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Supply Chain Outsource

There are some areas in Supply Chain that can possibly be a candidate for outsourcing so Enbridge don’t have to keep those entitled supervisors that spends most of their time on “meetings” and looking good; and staff who wastes a lot of time on gossiping, multiple coffee breaks and even watching movies during office hours while a lot of work order and purchase order requests sits on queue to be processed for at least a week.

An area called Supply Service Center is a sham. A lot of these repetitive process can be outsource for a 10-15min time frame to process a straightforward work order that is released against an existing contract. You just need a small team to match the request to a correct existing agreement and do the other checks as part of due diligence plus QA and give the execution for work release to a business process outsourcing company for a few bucks per work order release.

Sorry excuse of a department. No career path and utilize too many contractors to save money. High turnover and way too much negative energy floating around. It sounds more reasonable to clean house and outsource the work.

Dearest Efficient Shareholder i agree with you no one does job jut talk talk talk. No manager come to stop it the mangement just lets the clerical staff do what they want. Did you report these people not doing work to human resources? They should be able to go talk to staff and warn them to be smart.

Add lack of morals, manipulators, biased, and cheaters, backstabbers on top of lack of emotional intelligence.

Biggest problem here in Houston is the lack of emotional intelligence.

Repetitive tasks such as in some areas in supply chain should be outsourced. The trend these days is any repetitive tasks are evaluated and outsourced for much cheaper costs. Any project work should be outsourced and contracted too. You don’t really need lots of employees sitting duck for project work. Most of these jobs can be done executed better and cheaper by contractors and you don’t have to accrue pension benefits to these entitled employees.

I pray for the day when Enbridge finally wizens up and starts gutting the following departments; Supply Chain, Projects, and the good people at Infrastructure Planning and Lifecycle Effectiveness. The waste and redundancy in these departments are INCALCULABLE.

Why won't they start cutting these roles?

One of the few places to work for that supply chain degrees are not required. As long as you play the politics game and follow the crowd you are set. The work is all transactional and management has no idea how things work but still pretend to know how to manage their slaves.

SCM is probably the worst department you can join in Enbridge. It was like AP, glad it was outsourced.

Don’t get too comfortable because on next oil bust (yes it’s a cycle), and you’re in your mid 50s, too expensive ( consider the time spent on gossiping, coffee breaks and watching youtube) and doing mostly repetitive tasks like in SCM, you are a candidate for layoff.

When things go south the company and employees have no ethics. You’ll see for yourself sooner or later what really goes on here.

I know a few who started as admin and Enbridge practically pay for their school and provided the work experience to progress. But onced progressed, looks at other employees below them like substandard employees and treat contractors like dirt and all the while always name dropping some VPs name. Well, you know what they say - when you had nothing but you’re already feeling entitled and afterwards you think you become successful you’ll be more entitled. Just saying.

Sorry to break it to you. Most of the work in this department can be outsourced. Employees perform transactional supply chain work. There is nothing “complex” about the work. It’s mostly cut and paste day in and day out. What is more sad, many have no business working here or any supply chain department.

This has been YEARS that they been trying to outsource the "easy stuff". As long as you're part of PTs slumburger guild - you'll be fine.

If you’ve got a strong proposal for outsourcing with costs and potential vendors bring it forward to us in SCM and we’ll listen. Or if you have a concept but no inputs let’s work together with the numbers and see what the result is. We’ll set aside the criticism and welcome working with you.

Should've happened years ago. Adding shareholder value is not a driver. Creating mini empires around supervisors and managers protects their jobs during layoffs.

Let’s outsource all management. All they do is meetings too - most don’t have the knowledge to manage their teams anyways.

And this solves part of the racial segregation and toxic stereotyping. And then go for the next group to outsource (“Complex Buying”) and then go to the next group. I know I will be putting myself out of the job, however there are few activities in supply chain that is strategic enough to warrant all these managers and supervisors. The organization is bloated.
