Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Is WFH coming to end?

Anybody hearing that WFH will be drawing down? I know the people in Net Suite were told to RTO last month.

And I am hearing some chatter that other parts of O will be told to RTO after Labor day.

Is anybody hearing anything at your locations?

Yes the managers will look for any opportunity to divide the teams and thereby giving them more control as there will be fewer to oppose. I could easily see mgt using the WFH and those who opt not to come back in as an excuse to carry a grudge against these ones.

WFH is not coming to an end. it will go away for the departments where in-person matters, like support.

“ If I choose not to go in and stay remote, I believe my manager will resent it and hold it against me “

You can’t walk on egg shells forever. If that’s all it takes to get you in trouble, it is time to leave. Sooner or later he’s going to squash you!

I don't want to return to the office, for many reasons - some of my reasons have to do with the company and the environment they created ( full of anxiety and finger pointing).

To put it simply, I just don't trust the people I work for and being remote has been the only way I could deal with it) - I just don't want to go back to the office and deal with it all.

But I suspect that the RTO will likely be some sort of voluntary set up, at least in the beginning. And If I choose not to go in and stay remote, I believe my manager will resent it and hold it against me, just making the decision more difficult. I see it as a lose lose situation.

Companies know that they can reverse any policy that is not state or federally mandated, such as wfh and flex work. If you don’t have it in writing, or have the support of a union contract, you can kiss your 100% remote work goodbye. It’s just reality, and it’s happening all over the tech and business landscape.

100% remote ?? The hard facts are that nothing is guaranteed, unless you got it in your contract ( if you have one).

All of us who have been with O for years, know they tell you one thing in the morning and by evening nobody even remembers what you were told. Words mean nothing. Basically do what you are told and like it or leave it - that's is the big O motto.

Austin is not in a Province.

It doesn’t necessarily matter. They can just tell you to move if you want a job. You seem to think that you are indispensable. You are not. Nobody is.

Well I would say if you were hired to be 100 % remote and O eliminates the WFH, it's probably a good sign to see what else you can transition into. In fact you probably shouldn't wait but start looking before you get caught looking from outside in.

I was hired to 100% remote position. There is no office to return to, and I am the only one in my province from the whole department - it would make zero sense.

That's what the Austin campus is for.

I would guess that first will come the layoffs ( was talk of 3000) and then after the morale is totally shredded THEN they will announce the RTO.. and anybody who doesn't like it, can join the ranks of the ones who got laid off.

WFH was the only way I could deal with my management - basically I didn't have to see them f2f for 2 years. At this point I am not sure I want to go back to office and deal with all the BS anymore. Maybe it's time to check out what else is out there.

I am willing to return to office, but it will be in the same clothes for 5 days straight, and I will take showers Saturday and Sunday mornings only.
I will refer to the last day of the week as "Ripe Friday", and will be sure to collaborate and interact with as many people as possible.

Confirmed that it is coming to an end, but return to office does get easier once you learn to relax your bu*t muscles.

People have a right to know what was done to them. At the end of the day that is the most important thing. I hope you can see that and at least that will happen even if nothing else does.

Being able to WFH and manage my own time is pretty much the only positive of this job. If you take that away then I can’t really justify staying. If I ever choose to work in an office again, it won’t be at Oracle.

WFH was reason to deal with less pay. If that ends, bet lots will start looking

RTO allows managers to more easily detect employees coordinating their actions.

Lyft, Facebook and Google have already implemented RTO - starting with at least 3 days a week in the office. SAP is also advising they will start in September to implement RTO . Salesforce takes a different approach and offers a $10 charity contribution for days back in the office ( we see how long the generosity last)

Last month Amazon also told workers they had to RTO and hundreds of employees staged a walk out. Many others also have ended RTO like Walmart, Dell, UPS....etc.

So should not be a surprise to us that not to far in the future we also will be told to RTO. So it's on the way out.

It's too bad for some employees who somehow thought this WFH was permanent and relocated themselves ( and family) to some remote location where RTO is not possible without a complete upheaval. But the tide has now shifted to employers favor and with the labor market softening they can be more demanding. Let's wait to see what else they have up their sleeve.

Yes, RTO will happen in few months, probably end of summer. The Business story which will be handed out is that the company has to pay all of the facility expenses whether they are occupied or not, having some 30% occupancy doesn't justify the cost. And since there is no long term plan that we will all be 100% WFH, they will now return to business as was before Covid and utilize the corporate infrastructure. It's already starting as was said about Net suite RTO last month. So we are all back to the office,, but wait of course this doesn't apply to any of our so called managers and exec. individuals!

I am hearing that all teams will be required to have at least 50% on site on any given day. This is supposed to occur after Labor Day. The threat is that if there is not sufficient in office presence "O" will consider consolidating such office to another location.

I think LE has learned quite well from his good friend Elon and what he has done with Twitter. The mandate at Twitter was RTO for everyone and who doesn't comply gets the AX.... it's better than a RIF where you have to pay out severance - rather those who don't return to the office as mandated, will be let go vs laid off. Brilliant !! Great minds think alike - way to go Larry and Elon!!

Owned hub location will require sales employees to RTO. Otherwise, they will start subleasing more space. With that being said, the stinky part is REF will be gone, so who will everyone be able to complain to when your office is too chilly or your favorite seltzer has run out?? NO ONE. Beyond sad, the way REF is treated. Peace and Love people, show kindness to all.

"Is WFH coming to end?"

Yes, but it is far worse than that. Whoever is still standing after this next RIF will be required to move to the Austin TX campus.
