Thread regarding SAP layoffs

Does new mandatory RTO policy = forced attrition?

The new mandatory RTO policy is more restrictive than pre-COVID. Any word if the RTO policy is in lieu of layoffs? Or can we expect more layoffs in Q4/Q1?

In some German newspaper article (Manager Magazin), there was a statement that the new chief of the supervisory board is pushing hard on RTO and is a matter that is currently managed by the CEO. An announcement will follow in November and will „destroy all the advances we have made in regards of flexible work“ (loose quote/translation of what is in the article).

More surgical cuts coming - wonder if they will make “RTO compliance” an element of “surgical”?

difficult to justify the expense of owning these grandiose campuses if no one is in them. I would see RTO being implemented in the fall - gradual at first but evolving into mandated environment.

sounds like something perfect to take up with that goofy "Global Head of People Success" lady. she probably needs a special project since she is completely useless in helping me do my job

I am expecting Q2 to be a bust, so I would see RTO as a stepping stone to getting back to "normal"

The RTO issue was bound to be implemented at some point. SAP has built some very expensive campus locations globally - pretty much these installations are in each region. All come with food catering, expensive IT infrastructure ( including some having data centers), etc. The cost to run these expensive facilities is fixed whether they are occupied or not.

These are facilities which SAP owns vs leasing in a corporate multi tenant office bldg. Many of these also have customer support embedded in them. There is no way SAP is going to let all of these very expensive locations sit idle or be used at some nominal 10% capacity. Also many of SAP customers have already RTO.

Surprising that it has taken this long to reset the WFH. I suspect RTO will start out slow but by end of year it will be back to what it was pre covid. I would think the Board already has a target of how much presence (%) they want in the office on any given day to justify the expense.

What I got from my management is RTO doesn't take effect till "sometime" after Labor day. But the key is that it still will be personal judgement in whether individuals want to continue to WFH.

What are others hearing?? what locations/countries will be attempting to implement RTO?? Which Board areas will implement??
