Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Don't bank on a long career at Oracle!

So very glad I left lowly Oracle years ago, best decision ever. If you're looking to get in a few years of experience at Oracle and then move on, that's a good approach. But I don't recommend you stay at Oracle any longer than 5 years max.

Too bad there are so many sad sacks who still think that Oracle is the place to build a long-term career. Well, good luck because you'll need it. And your career won't last long at Oracle. Count on it.

A lot of naysayers are here downvoting the way it actually is at Oracle. I left Oracle two years ago, and what has been stated here was true even then. At Oracle, I had training workshop collateral and other artifacts stolen by various “colleagues” who took credit and removed my and other’s names from them, and management did nothing about it. So who cares, keep your head in the sand, and believe what you want. Stay at Oracle at your own peril.

The truth is there are tons of other much better places to work, companies that will value you as an employee and provide you with greater compensation and with real promotion opportunities. I now work at one of these companies, and my career is far better off than it was at Oracle. I don’t miss Oracle one bit.

And for what it’s worth, customers ARE leaving Oracle in droves. I know, because I’ve been helping that happen in my current job role at my company. If you think that Oracle has any chance to become a leader in Cloud, you are 100% delusional and a fool.

I still have friends at Oracle, and every one of them is miserable there. SO GLAD I left when I did.

Enjoy “Bangalore II”, I mean, Austin. We gotta be politically correct, don’t we?

And American employees who have busted their rear ends for Oracle over the years are shamefully being dropped to the curb.

You left out (intentionally I'm guessing, given the racial axe you obviously need to grind) one small detail. These employees who busted their butts did that to learn commoditized tech skills and did so willingingly and with their eyes open. Not smart snd that's on them.

The “browning” of Oracle is nearly complete. And American employees who have busted their rear ends for Oracle over the years are shamefully being dropped to the curb.

Choose to agree or not agree, but it is the reality. Any new grads should avoid Oracle like the plague.

The salary plans are designed to attract young kids out of school. Then once you have 5 years in, right about the time you start to get really good, your position will be absorbed by offshore consultants or H1B workers. This is the way they do it. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see it.

4 years with your RSUs vesting is the maximum you should stay here . Anything after that is a waste of your time and energy, unless you are able to move up the ladder to M5 or above

so true, newbies expect your next 5 years at O to have the same pay. Go find another camp site once all your rsu vested, or go away then comeback for another set of new rsu

The OP is spot on 100%. And the one commenter who questioned why the OP posted what he did is just one of those laughing stock Oracle lifers who thinks that the universe revolves Larry and his slowly decaying empire.

My first 3-5 years at Oracle were tremendous for my career, but after that my professional growth (and my total compensation and promotion opportunities) quickly flattened out. And Oracle management is more of a hit-or-miss thing, as some managers are excellent but many others are downright awful.

I see Oracle as nothing more than an on-ramp to where you really want to be for your career.

I was going to say that your wages are capped at five years, but in reality, your salary is set the day you join Oracle. If you want to stay, don’t expect more money.
