Quick question: why do many here think that moving internally is not a good idea?

It's a HORRIBLE idea. RH won't let the manager give you a raise. It's ridiculous
If you are looking to move to another department/role in Oracle, and if you researched that the department is doing well, and if you think you are going to love the new job, just go for it. Being laid off can happen in any company. Don't live with that fear. Just be prepared in case you have to change companies, but enjoy life!
@lte+1ngw3eIJ what do you see as the main differences in LJ vs SC orgs?
Also to echo, if you have an opportunity to join a well-funded, well-led org that has been performing and who's outlook you believe to be good: definitely take a look. That could be internal or external... but most likely external to Oracle.
I've also seen managers in Oracle block transfers for no other reason but to keep the headcount that they've earmarked to RIF, so they don't have to RIF their favorites.
"Your manager still have control and can sc--w your life"
Typo above
"Your manager still have control and can sc--w your b*tthole"
There, fixed it.
I know people were let go because tried to switch Internally. Your manager still have control and can sc--w your life.
Don’t waste your time, find something better outside of Oracle. There is no real career to build as an Oracle lifer.
With all the layoffs, lies, back stabbing and dramatic increase in H1B and offshore contracting, why would you even want to stay? Listen to those that know - just get out.
Because you would still work for Oracle.
Moving internally is fine. Its also not that simple. The org structure at the very top is based on SC and LE. Under them, is where the major orgs start to differentiate. It also gets very complex in that region and nationality also come into play. How far the "tree" branches go, will depend on how good it will be, and what are your options. The biggest change would be to move from SC side of the house to LE side, or vice versa. Moving to a different org, or transfering to another group within the org? Within the same org, you can't move and get a pay raise or change your level as part of the transfer. Its rare for there to be any change in "level" or pay when you transfer within an org. If you transfer out of the org, your HR team also changes, so there will be a new person who will manange those things. Take the SC/LE tree, and see where the transfer lands you. Why transfer then? Look to the future. If the place you are going if funded well, has opportunities, has good leadership and has a future, then by all means, make the transfer. The leadership/org "tree" will also help you understand what ispossible and probable. One thing for sure - do not transfer into Marketing or Sales. That will be your death.
Objects in motion stay at motion.
HR have in the past placed a cap on how much % increase in salary they will give when moving to a new role. They can even deny a promotion altogether if it’s too big of a jump. That’s why so many people have been better off leaving and then coming back. New hires can get better offers. Speaking from experience.
