Wow, finally I may have a 1:1 with my VP. Better later than never :D

Be careful what you wish for. It's hard to sit in a meeting thinking "this guy's an id--t" for an hour :ꓷ

@4tln+1nfcHcKR Makes sense. It’s ridiculous how few reports managers have, and how many layers of middle management there are.

"Cisco only survives based on back-end deals with large customers made on handshakes, bribes, and lies."

You just described Corporate America, Academia, and American Government.

Cisco only survives based on back-end deals with large customers made on handshakes, bribes, and lies.

The big customers know what's going on at Cisco to a far greater degree than most employees, and when lied to made threats to ki-l enough business in one quarter to trash Cisco's stock price. They rarely followed through because the competitors' products and support were going to result in something even worse.

HPE swept their junk under the Aruba brand name to retire and they don't even use the word networking to describe the business segment. Arista is coming up on 20 years old and has revenues that are about 9% of Cisco's. Juniper has been at it for 8 more years than Arista and has revenues that are about 10% of Cisco's. "Crazy Chucky's Final Clearance Sale!" is not nigh.

I’m so glad this is not my life anymore. The pressure a couple of times a year that you may be laid off is stressful asf. It’s not until you leave Cisco that you realize you were in an abusive relationship. An abuser will do nice things every so often to keep you thinking they love you, but that’s just so they can get you to stay and keep taking the abuse. It’s not until you leave the relationship that you realize how you were being abused.

In tech, no one is completely immune to layoffs every couple of years. But to have a culture that has everyone on eggshells constantly because it can happen at any time is next level stress that I never want to deal with again.

You guys do realize 19 days, 19 years or 19th is a meme answer to anything LR here?

They do rolling layoffs to cover the fiscal year results. They care about what the street thinks, not reality. So laying off a bunch of folks to make your numbers look better, then hiring new 20- somethings that have no idea what they're doing is the yearly cycle.

Cisco trains up those 20 somethings and then they leave for the competition and customers. When they leave, they take with them the idea that they will never use Cisco's junk products (because they've had to experience Cisco's junk products and don't want to do so again).

Cisco only survives based on back-end deals with large customers made on handshakes, bribes, and lies. We've sold customers products that didn't exist (1 year wait times for hardware), (Support services that don't actually have a differentiated experience from free services), (packaged deals with software we know the customer won't use) (etc).

Cisco also burns money like they are getting it for free. Probably because they are. Where is all that money coming from? Does anyone get curious as to why we have so much internal security against our own employees? Signing into Duo 18 times a day, certainly isn't for productivity's sake.

It wouldn't surprise me. The current leadership is so bad these days, especially in Customer Experience.

If there is another round of LR's it will target older, more experienced people. Cisco is moving to lower and lower grade levels. They don't care about experience. Those impacted will lose, of course, and so will customers. It's horrible for the employees but they keep chipping away at the value Cisco used to bring to customers. I think the current leadership does not care. If they cut costs their bonus goes up and then it takes several years to impact customers and then those leaders are gone with fat bonuses.

Deals are getting harder and harder in Cisco because we're not delivering on the ones we've sold. Customers lose also but it's far worse for the employees impacted.

If another LR is indeed happening in 19 days, then just freaking make it 50% of the company and move forward without another one for 10 years. I know these aren’t new to Cisco. But it’s exhausting, worrying, ki-ls morale, and leads to mental absenteeism.

And yes I know I’ll hear it: “get out while you can”. But I really do think the company can do great things. I doubt anyone in a position of power reads these posts, but please consider how these LRs are interpreted by insiders and outsiders.
