Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

June & November - 2023

Take training classes on the company dime if you can - I'm speaking to you IT.

Use Personal Days. Make use of your benefits NOW. Use their medical/dental/vision assistance.

Update your resumes. Train yourselves. Use the remaining time to improve your opportunities.

I've been here a long time. I'm holding on in IT Management as long as I can. If I get cut, I can't complain. I've been taken care of. I want to see people I know do what they can to help themselves.

Care - You know what's coming. Make use of additional downtime between calls for your future.

Retail - You know what's coming. I wouldn't wait. Make the change now.

IT - Hold on as long as you can. TAKE COMPANY FUNDED TRAINING CLASSES! Stack up on your resume. Soon, there will be small engineering teams, a few leads for our user base, and that will be it. They ARE going to outsource everything else.

DO NOT - Spend time wishing for a 2018/2019 VSP ... NOT going to happen. Stop putting yourselves in bad moods complaining about Hans, Stock Price, etc. What does that do? This is not the whine board. This is not a troll people board. This is not a be mean to people board.

This board should be VALID information supplied to employees.

I care deeply about my fellow IT employees. I'm older and my time has passed. I want my younger coworkers to not get caught up in the emotional details and to start taking action now. Good luck.

Agreed - Left Vz in March with 30+ yrs but was planning it for a year - used all Medical benefits to get everything checked out, etc. Moved on to another company and their health benefits are NOT as robust as Vz's!!! It takes time to schedule appts at your Dr's and then if you do need additional treatment, that takes even more time. Same thing for Dental, etc.
Bank your Vaca as much as possible. I left with 400 hrs and a $22k payout - a very nice going away present.
Upgrade your phones in the months before leaving. You will be able to switch to another carrier (TMo's the cheapest - I have 5 lines on family plan for $55/mo after employee discount) and they will probably give you up to $800 to cover the amount left on the DPP.
Finally, Sign up for Vz Retiree health benefits for first full month after Emp benefits lapse - then cancel. PRO - These benefits can be re-initiated if you need them down the road but you MUST have signed up before leaving VZ or you cant re-sign up later. CON - They were 2500/mo so pretty damned expensive but if you need great coverage in the future for a major issue, its there for you!
