Are they closing the whole office or laying off due to restructuring/reorganization of the corporate structure?

No disrespect but those are DEFINITELY not the facts. I work there....Layoffs just happened, and are pivoting in a different direction.

Redundancies have begun in Canada (106 in Fredericton) just 6 months after IBM said they will employ 250 in NB https://www.reddit.com/r/fredericton/comments/zh7zsi/ibm_pledges_250_new_jobs_in_nb_with_a_focus_on/

There were layoffs in March (https://www.timesnownews.com/business-economy/companies/ibm-layoffs-tech-major-fires-1-5-workforce-check-why-it-issued-pink-slips-to-nearly-4000-employees-article-97343033). My role was made redundant in APAC along with others, however there were no layoffs in Indian or Costa Rican team, they employed more.

IBM CEO who made $16.5 million in 2022 (https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/ibm-ceo-arvind-krishna-earned-16-5-million-in-2022/articleshow/98592833.cms) has a deal with Indian govt to create large IT labs, CIC included (https://cio.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/corporate-news/ibm-bets-big-on-india-to-open-more-software-development-centres/87812258).

Share price and dividends rule everything and the IBM CEO has a vested interest given his large amount of share options. IBM's plan is for AI to replace 30% of their workforce in 5 years (https://fortune.com/2023/05/01/ibm-ceo-ai-artificial-intelligence-back-office-jobs-pause-hiring/) . If you look at the acquisitions in AI field since the CEO came on board it would also suggest this.

Finally there may be a looming financial crisis that they are likely preparing and it doesn't matter about the existing people or if the product or service is profitable. Beware the big blue as an employer it is run by the International Brotherhood of Magicians and may one day be called India Business Machines.

Are they closing the Ottawa and Ireland offices for QRadar as well?

Very sad. It was amazing to have a big name company like IBM in little ol' Fredericton, NB. It's a real shame that upper management made so many bad decisions that ultimately led it to this point.

How lame and lacking in personal dignity must one be to camp on this page and downvote every comment that gets posted?

How official is this? And when will that location be shut? Rob T and minions just created a bunch more work remote developers. The only problem is that Rob T and minions will only allow a product to be co-developed in (up to) two locations. The Great Leader himself says that work from home is a career ki-ler at IBM. (And he would prefer to replace most people with AI anyway.)

I feel for the people being laid off as well as the people not being laid off. There literally are no winners here.

And to the down vote mafia wherever you are, go ahead and vote the OP down like crazy. This is a horrible move on the part of IBM and will seriously hurt real people. So, you IBM lickspittles, how are you going to handle this? The OP's sentiment is clearly negative and yet the joy that wrecking lives brings to IBM (The Great Leader, Rob T., ...) knows no bounds. You are clearly utterly feckless and incapable of nuanced thought. If you were not blessed in that way, this would quite a conundrum, wouldn't it? Don't answer; you're not really capable of contemplating this dichotomy.

CIC belongs to IBM Canada. The layoff happens for the Software group. Two different division.

If this is true, it’s a complete 180 degree change given the 12/2022 announcement. Seems the 2023 NA April restructuring is finally hitting Canada. Either way, maybe someone should tell management what the plan is before they make press releases.
