Maybe a d-mb question but if these 8/14-8/15 dates are true and you’re on vacation next week, do you get contacted while out of office? Also do they pay out PTO?

Well this is CVS where your manager call you 24/7 because there is no work life balance. So of course they will call you on your vacation to lay you off.
Yes, they get in contact even if on PTO ; earned but unused PTO is paid by law in most states
