Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Experiencing a great deal of anxiety

I am nervous about what will happen next week, and I am especially worried about how long it will take me to find a new job if I am laid off. Are you feeling anxious too?

Some of my colleagues are optimistic and say that the job market is not as bad as I think, that is, that most of us will find new, better jobs in a relatively quick period. Maybe that's a bit too optimistic...

If they wait a few months hopefully they get their 5000 people from those quitting plus thousands more who are just done.
Then no layoffs

Despite all the anxiety and uncertainty of the present, this is actually a very good time to prepare for a transition toward "life after CVS." I spent this weekend updating my resume, knowing I'll probably need to fine-tune a few details as this scenario progresses.

Other things to do in preparation, even if nothing materializes:
Have a few printed copies of your resume printed and ready to distribute on short-notice. Draft it so any changes that may be necessitated in the future can be easily made.

Prepare a cover letter template that you can easily edit and print (&/or save) should the need arise.

Find and set links to whatever unemployment benefits may be available. Pay particular notice if/how severance may affect your UI benefits. It's better to prepare ahead of time and not need the services than it is to scramble around later.

Make sure any job, or career, sites you use (or plan to use) are updated accordingly.

Basically, this advice is elementary "Job Search 101," but in these stressful times it's important to dust off the job-hunting skills and tools that many of us haven't needed to use for a long time.

I’m no expert, but it looks like what I’m seeing is that the job market is slowing down from where it was a year ago.

An article is saying the job market is cooling gradually, but remains favorable for workers. Due to lots of layoffs within the past year plus people aren’t switching jobs as rapidly as they were in the Great Resignation.

Job openings fell by about 500,000 in May, but are still well above their pre-pandemic level.

Recommendation is to apply early and expect it to take a little longer than it did 1-2 years ago when it truly was an employee’s market.

I got a new job in the midst of that and couldn’t respond to recruiter messages fast enough. I’ll bet these days, they’re reaching out less aggressively as there’s now an influx of people who have been laid off (especially in certain industries and roles).

So keep hope, expect it to be a marathon not a sprint. Most importantly, take some steps early on to put yourself in a good spot. Start some rough drafts of resume updating. Doing that isn’t going to make it true- it’s just setting yourself up and getting a head start should anything bad happen.

I feel the same way you do.

I have been through this before about 10 years ago. It is stressful and it creates much anxiety.

At least back then, the company notified everyone affected a couple days apart (it was a fortune 500 company too). This weeks long drag out is cruel and unkind.

Yes we are all experiencing different forms of anxiety. I have lost a lot of sleep every night. I am applying for jobs because regardless I don't feel this is a healthy place to stay working at. Good luck to you. You aren't alone in this.

I totally hear you my friend. Its easy to say than having a job on hand. We will get a reality check when we actually apply for jobs and see where we stand and how long it would take
