Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Looking for an honest opinion about product innovation

Perhaps I'm too disappointed in some things and therefore not very objective about the situation here. That's why I'm interested in what the rest of you think about product innovation at Nike nowadays? I feel awful when I recall what product innovation used to be like, and what it is like now.

Real innovation died in 2017 when the Kitchen and NSRL stopped listening to the voice of the athletes. There needs to be a major purge of the command staff of the NSRL, the Kitchen and Apparel Innovation. "Retired while working" pretty much covers all of these lumps.

Having been on the original core team to create the Innovation Kitchen program for Nike 25 years ago, it is shocking to see how far it has slipped! Staffed with close to 750 people, incredible resources and large budgets but unfortunately many have been in their roles for decades and have become fat and lazy, block rising talent that could make a difference. The President of Nike Innovation TC, is on the job retired, and should have been gone years ago. So this large team of misfits now bumble along on personal pet projects with no concern for profitability of their ideas or even care if a category is interested in bring their project to market. The once strong rally cry of "Innovate of Die!" is no more, as we are watch the slow death of what once made Nike great.

There is no innovation : the executive leadership is all about shareholder value. They don't care or understand product at all. That is why Nike is going down and the brand is being destroyed from within.

I don’t know if it was COVID or a business decision but we’re doing less innovation. I hope we get back to it.

It feels like there used to be a steady drumbeat of new/innovative elements coming out seasonally or at least annually from the brand. I haven't seen much in the last few years.
