I’m interviewing with Humana and am curious about the climate with layoffs and such…

All big companies have layoffs. Be a strong performer & you are less likely to be let go or at least in a good spot to move to another role. No matter where you work, keep your resume fresh. NO job is permanent or secure any more.

Don’t go to Humana! It is not a good place to work!

I just recently accepted a position outside of Humana after 12 years of service as RN . I was mentally exhausted and had waves of anxiety of whispers of RIF. Aware of RIFs from other departments and knowing from experience track records of RIFs. I just did not want to go through another unexpected RIF: “ will it be me this time”. Even though management has been saying with certainty no RIF. But unfortunately if you have been with Humana long enough you personally can pick up on the vibes. I certainly did not want to leave but for security purposes of having employment I made my decision. I decided not to go into another insurance company as they are all experiencing the same . Always will love CM but time to change . Good luck to the company hoping for continuous improvement and growth. For all associates wishing no RIFs!

Just run the other direction! I am a very tenured associate with progressive experience/ responsibility. Yet, every day I log in waiting for my 4pm call with HR to deliver my notice. It’s horrible considering all I have sacrificed for this organization. Good luck on your search though.

Humana pays relatively well. And there are pockets of goodness sprinkled throughout the business. But overall, it’s not a good climate or culture despite what management says. Go in knowing that. Don’t believe the hype. Get as much as you can in salary if you’re offered the job. Learn as much as you can, and keep your eyes open for other opportunities in case you have to leave.

This is not the first time Humana started layoff in this year and it will not be the last. Check out multiple health insurance companies' layoffs and it looks like health insurance industry is tanking at national level. Medical care for all sponsored by gov may be a better alternative in upcoming years. https://www.insurancebusinessmag.com/us/guides/insurance-layoffs-everything-you-need-to-know-448250.aspx

I would think it would be a red flag, interviewing with a company that has layoffs. Depending on your role, you may be more susceptible than others

Still amazes me how they lay people off and yet continue to hire from outside for the same or similar roles. If you work for Humana just understand that the caring and sharing BS is just that... BS. They don't care about you and your stay is just a business decision away from ending.
