Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Anyone in HR or ER Displaced?

Anyone in HR or ER displaced this past week? If so, any insight provided other than the standard talking points?

Was made aware of a HR Employee provided displacement notice because they lived 45 miles outside of a core hub. Employee stated they were okay with commuting. Manager advised that an exception request would need to be submitted up to senior leadership for review and it may or may not be approved. Interesting....

Since when has Wells Fargo ever cared what is legal? I was always told the same though: that employers cannot discriminate against you based on where you live, since that used to be done in the past to keep black people from getting jobs. The only legal thing the company can do is enforce attendance rules.

The optics are bad though.

@2hit This strategy has already been implemented throughout the company. It’s just now hitting HR, ER and L&D. Let’s just say, no lawsuit or lack thereof, has caused any concern or pause, meaning ineffective. So, they will keep outsourcing, laying off and closes branches, etc. There’s no stopping this crazy train.

HR and ER should be the first ones to be cut. Both are worthless AF and never do anything to improve the culture or have the backs of employees. Bunch of corporate drones and sheep is what they are! Most worthless functions in the bank!

That's a good point. We have lots of employees that commute further than that. People working in San Fran, for example. If you're going to fire everyone over 40 miles away you won't have any employees left in some places.

I'd ask "why do they care?" but it's all just excuses anyway. They are going to fire who they want to fire and the "reason" is made up BS.

Any one being terminated because they do not live within 40 miles of a hub location is a lawsuit waiting to happen. WF can say you are assigned to hub X, but they cannot dictate where you choose to live. If you are willing to drive over 40 miles to and from work for x number of days that is your choice.

If we didn’t have so many lazy employees out there, HR wouldn’t even be necessary. I wish we could go back to the Guilded Age, those guys didn’t have an HR department to complain to.

  • Just as L&D, Employee Relations is getting decimated. You'd think they would save ER for last, but at this point who cares.

Given that this is a cost savings and all about money I'm surprised Chainsaw Charlie didn't eliminate the severance plan.

Hope AI is good at listening to all the disgruntled WF employees and their allegations, disputes, conflicts and complaints! Good luck with that

Lay me off already — the golf course is waiting! I already spend most of my time there anyway when you think I am “working”

is WF going to hire a company to execute the displacements? Like the movie Up in the Air...!!!
HR has believed they were untouchable....sorry, not sorry this is happening to them

Wonder how many highly paid people it took to come up with “Operation Thunderball.”Think of all the time and money the company probably spent coming up with that.

L&D is getting decimated, facilitators, their managers, consultants, and instructional designers. I've survived the 8/8 round. I hate that I know it's coming, but don't know when.

Will the HR employees doing the displacements also be displaced if in not in a hub?

But will they make exceptions for their “favorites”?

Yes, its part of Operation Thunderballs, a covert plan finalized last year and approved by the BOD. EVERY division must adhere to determining 6-12 hub locations. Those hubs can vary across divisions. But, once determined, any employee not within 40 miles of one of the hubs will have their position eliminated. And even if you are in a city with a different division's hub but not yours, your position will be eliminated. (Your only option if you want to stay is to apply for a job in that division.) Remote work agreements are being cancelled, even for those prior to the pandemic. There is a very limited number of exceptions for some individuals who may be in critical roles but several layers of management need to agree. The reason why this seems chaotic is that each division was given some leeway in when they actually start executing the plan. That's why Tech has started earlier and HR is starting it now but CSBB wont be until later in the Fall, for example. Typical of WF though is that they cant seem to bring themselves to actually just spell out the employment plan. So, by next year basically anyone not in those hubs will be gone and anyone who refuses RTO will be performance reviewed out eventually. Thats the new WF, folks, whether you like it or not.

Hudson Yards: "the only way for this company to succeed is if we see each other face to face more often!"

Also Hudson Yards "half you MFers are fired so we can replace you with cheap workers you'll never see in I&P".

Good. I absolutely despise HR. You people scare the living daylights out of me and always seems suspicious of everyone you talk to. Terrible. Just let me focus on making this company revenue.

HR employees should know how to access the company’s severance plan information and procedures. It’s available to all employees in the Benefits information online. It’s at the very end.

I'm sorry to hear that - the worst part about that is the fact that they've been doing layoffs by the thousands for a few years now so there is no excuse for the company not being organized. I know with my layoff I was at least told what my exact notice day was (the day they called me) and thus which date was my final day of notice, following which my severance would begin.

You should be getting an email with official documents in the next few days unless you were given a pre-notice notice, in which case you'll get that email a few days after August 8th. In that event, you'll then receive an invite to a Zoom call where they crack jokes and make light of you losing your job with each other as presenters while you aren't allowed to say anything because you're on permanent mute and they explain more of the details in that Zoom call.

This explains why my HR rep that was trying to help place me suddenly disappeared. She has not returned any phone calls or emails.

I am in HR and was advised I was being laid off for not being within a hub location. Effective 8/8 paperwork to come. I do not know if 8/8 starts 60 day notice period, what severance or official last day is. Nice too see how organized this process is.

I was told the same in regards to approval. They said they're making sure people will actually do the commute 3 days a week. It also needs to be a position they plan on a backfilling in a hub. Jobs not being backfilled are going offshore. HR is understaffed in some areas but they displaced those roles anyway and will continue in waves through 2024. Some were notified their job will end in Q4.

They want people to leave without severance. Why tell someone their income will stop without an actual date? What incentive do they have to meet expectations? They know they'll be jobless by the holidays and won't get a bonus in 2024. This was a decent company but now it's only about stock buybacks. I don't even think Wells cares about bad press anymore. Shareholders up, everyone else down.

All of HR was informed this week that they are or will be displaced if they are not currently at a major location hub. They were not given the option to commute. I work in recruiting and I asked for an exception and that request was denied. They are not back filling any recruiting positions to hub locations. Most of recruiting that has been displaced last day will be 8/8.
