Is anyone else having a hard time hiring temps for Fall? This agency recommends for me to go and recruit people, send them their way so they can hire them… might as well stop wasting money on these clowns and do it myself. Also, these wages being offered, a fu----g joke. No wonder these kids don’t want to work here. Imagine having to deal with customers for that pay.

Yes. Temps have no loyalty. They are there for the check. Put yourself in their shoes. Life's going good, then the students come back to campus. Its like opening the doors of the lion cage. Why stay? Unfortunately, even if the agency sends a replacement, now they are not trained. And useless.
Food for thought JRC. if you are paying temps $18, add what you are paying the agency. Wake up. Invest in your own people. Year round. It will be less expensive in the long run. On so many levels.
The Temps we hired were making $18 an hour, and during rush we were told we would be making an extra $1.00 an hour. The Temps were still making more than the employees and doing less work. I will say that after the first day of school during Fall Rush most did not come back.
Any plans to give permanent employees a rush raise to separate us from the temps? Did it fall and spring rushes this past year.
Agreed! You need to get it together soon or there is nowhere to go but down. Fall rush is around the corner and this is going to make or break so many stores.
The Ivory Tower clowns do not have a clue how to operate this type of business. This is not a CVS, Macy's or Taco Bell. And bringing in their former management / executives will not change the fact this is not a Big Box retail operation. It is called "specialty" stores for a reason.
If you want to succeed, you need to start relying on the expertise you have in the stores. Stop listening to the Monkeys.
Pay attention JRC! Do you have any idea how much the lack of knowledge is costing you.
To start with, you are paying the high dollars to the wrong people. Start investing in the ones who are actually working, and know what they are doing. You have already terminated or forced out so many, don't lose the ones you have left.
I could list so many things wrong with this picture. It is just like buying high quality items... You get what you pay for.
But temps are not it. In addition to the costly mistakes and high turnover, add the fees to temp agency. Not a smart move. Now add the additional work the agency is throwing back onto the manager. It is simply throwing money away.
Temps were making more than me as an asst mgr with 30 yrs experience last fall. Hiring temps is a joke. I was doing they work of 3 people because of only being able to hire them. We were lucky if they showed up two days in a row after cramming so much info into their brains during rush.
Seriously? That's more than they were paying ASM who's position was eliminated. and just under what they offered Store Leaders to deal with all the stress.
Talk about throwing money away. Students would be totally happy to work for less. Why do you think their friends are all running to apply. They get to make $16 per hour while playing on their cell phones/watches.
Let go someone with experience and hard working ethics to replace with inexperienced temps for more money.
Not sure why that would surprise me. They are desperate. They will throw money at this rush to survive. Then when the bills come due, they will panic and start letting people go.
Right now it's slow, they have no idea what's coming their way. Every rush we started out with lots of Temps, but after the first day of school most did not come back.
We started at sixteen just to stand at register. Then they started doing soda, stocking, and then , OMG, THEY ENCOURAGED FRIENDS TO APPLY.
