Thread regarding Capital One layoffs

It's Starting!

Good luck everyone...

It'll be rough and some good people will leave.

I've seen the best of the best cut over the last few years, it'll be repeated.

The market is good and it's OK to move on. Remember this has nothing to do with you and they are moving pieces on the chess board.

If affected - stay strong, believe in yourself and move on

Godspeed!

What other departments have been hit besides tech?

Not just tech

Still shocked at how quickly and abruptly this went down. Going to try to keep my head up and search for a new job. Best of luck to all the others that were affected.

This is so sick. Capone is an illness. They're all sickos.

Is it just tech that was impacted or are there other areas outside of tech?

I verified with HR that for non-managers, it'll be 20 weeks severance starting Oct 1.
So that's more than 7 months to find a new job starting today.
Furthermore, I believe we also get paid for unused PTO.

Correction to my last post, I meant Aug 1st, NOT Oct 1st

To be CLEAR, not everyone being let go is being offered a severance. I'm not sure what the reason is for some to receive a severance and some to NOT, but I know first hand not everyone is offered it, they're being told they get paid until Oct 1st, which is standard

It’s 28 weeks severance on top of 60 days redeployment for M/SM level. Gives some time to recover and look for next opportunity

Is it just tech roles or is it across the board and what locations geographically have been impacted?

by

Because it's performance based it doesn't look like people are going to get any decent severance package...

Dont they have until August 16th to finish mid year reviews? Anything beyond August 16th seems concerning

I know a few folks that were pushed to next week and just got promoted end of year 2022. Do you think they are including everyone at this point even those too new rate in their new role?

I know they stack rank Senior Directors. Do they stack rank VPs and MVPs and up? I guess it doesn't matter because they can fire you anytime and if you don't have an executive employment contract with them you're screwed.

I'm in tech and my manager slacked me that they were pushing my mid year review to next week. Bad sign. They had 2 months to calibrate and now this? They save the worse for last those beeootches.

Is HR telling People Leaders to move associates mid-year reviews to August?

Very true! I was affected by this today. PL was told to push MY convo and ratings to the end of August and then this call today and PL weren’t even aware this was going to do down like this and they found out as we were finding out we were being laidoff. All planned!

"it's 20 weeks severance. bless everyone"

Glad to hear that. I wasn't sure if I'd be getting any severance.

If you're a people manager you might want to watch out. I just saw one of the best employees I've known get layed off. Luckily, it's 6 months pay, so you're set for a little while. God bless all of you.

I haven't gotten my midyear yet, but have an inclination that I will get a below strong. I have gotten anything but strong in the past. Will I get a pip or do I need to get another bad review for my YE? I was reading somewhere that people are getting pip even if it is their first below strong.

I'm in tech my manager put in slack they're pushing remainder of mid year reviews to August. Big red flag this is to setup employees with termination.

Yes, this information is accurate. It affects all of tech, if you have had any black mark on your record since 2020 and got below strong at mid-year, you’re up for termination. This is after the bottom distribution was DOUBLED, so this was planned. They just don’t want to report it as a layoff because they would look bad, so labeling it as “performance based” makes it look like they’re getting rid of a bunch of “bad” employees.

Today's layoff was performance based. If someone had a below strong any time in 2020-2022 and got one at midyear 2023 they were cut. They will be paid until Oct 1. Standard PIP severance.

Maybe (obviously) they’re vague because people who share information don’t want to be identifiable by the company? Duh?

Umm, yeah, maybe if people divulge too much then they risk giving themselves up
