Thread regarding Follett layoffs

It's time to leave

Why are people (field people) complaining so much but still stay? I have been gone for a bit, not due to layoffs, left on my own because it was too toxic, and it seems to just keep getting worse. Stop complaining, get your resume spiffed up, and start looking for work. My store was understaffed, like many others, but everything always got done, dedication. After a long career with Follett it was hard to leave, the comfort of knowing my job, but too many uncertainties, constant pressure to do more with less people to do it. I felt customer service was lacking only due to lack of people. It is a reflection on the manager, not on the company, the school and customers don't look to blame Follett. After taking a little break, think about what I wanted to do, I found a great job in a very pleasant and supportive environment. You can do find better.

@3zve+1nv6aE54 makes a great point.

I was part of the terminated and being in our positions people don't want to hire you in even a step above entry. They wonder why you haven't applied for a managers position. Job hunting is not for the faint of heart. Best wishes on finding something as I know alot of areas are job poor.

I've been trying to leave. I'm glad everything worked out for you.

It would be nice to take a little break, but I can't afford to just quit. Ive been actively searching since February!

Please don't people down.

Good for you! But if you are no longer with Follett, then why do you care what anyone says on this site? Why are you reading? Have you really moved on? Or just another troll?
Of course people are complaining here. There is nothing positive to say, or you would not have left.
Most people here are gone, either by choice or restructure. And if by choice, most likely because Follett made it impossible for them to do their jobs (and not due to poor management).
Yes... There are better jobs out there, for the young. For the older, who gave their best (and their youth) to Follett, it is not so easy. Most companies do not want to invest in employees who only have a few more years left in the work force. Unfortunately, we believed in the Follett Values that were instilled in us. We were instructed to ingrain ourselves into the campus community and become part of them. "People do business with people they know". We were pumped up at conferences like the recent one hosted for MLs, RMs and GVPs. They fill you with positives, drinks and send you back to your troops to spread the message.
What they don't tell you is your are expendable. Don't think of this as a career, because if you ride to high on the pay scale, you are no longer a good ROI.
I had thought about leaving a few years ago, but decided to hang on until retirement (my bad). Now I am sharing my wisdom with those remaining. For the older, I understand your reason to stay, but it is not worth your health. For the young / new, you will be used up and tossed out when no longer needed. This company no longer values loyalty and hard work. They are only trying to ring out as many $'s as they can before the company goes under. They have no clue how to run this business. Their recent change will result in multiple lost contracts. They are grasping at straws to make this work and do not care how hard they whip the horses. That is the hard reality.
