Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Honest question…

I try and try but can’t wrap my head around how anyone at “One Team” thinks you can prep for fall and handle all of the shipments coming in, as well as adoption questions/setting/receiving AND customers by reducing hours even more. YES, I’m actively applying places but age does have a factor in who will hire you, not to mention, I have a family life and grandkids and would prefer not to work nights/weekends. (That’s about to change). I love this job and my store and am desperately trying to stay afloat but am always just shy of a nervous breakdown due to all of the receiving, new planograms to set, items to be audited/sent back, etc. I need MORE hours to do these things and as we enter our busy period, I get less. I’ve heard it before: leave Follett, they don’t care, you can do better… but I need a paycheck and a job that’s somewhat comparable and a business that hires 50+ year-olds! ONE TEAM, if you’re here, how do you think this works???

If I was still there (which I am so glad I am not) I would give the same advice.... do the best you can "within" your regular shift and go home. It is impossible to do it all, and JRC does not get it. This restructure did nothing but cut hours and add a bigger workload at a reduced pay with non-experienced staff, "if" you are fortunate enough to have staff. Jobs are out there.
I will say over 60 is hard (I wish I was 50) but not giving up. My 16 year old grandaughter is making close to the same wage i was offered. If I get to the point that I can't find anything else, I will work as a cashier without the stress. "HONESTLY" I can make what they offered anywhere. And as much as everyone says "work your shift, and go home" I can understand that is hard to do. For those with strong work ethics, It is in our nature to "give our all" and to "complete what needs to be done".
JRC has made that task impossible! Do Not jeopardize your health for anyone. Best advice... LEAVE! Start looking now. You can make at least the same if not more and have a better quality of life.
Life is short. Family is precious! And JRC does not value you.
I'm pretty sure they will not even bother with sending flowers to your funeral. RUN!!

You may be right on over 50 hiring. I've been looking and applying but haven't yet had any bites until today. I have an interview and hopefully 2 more to be set up. Persistence is the key. Just keep applying but if you want an office job make sure you list those on your resume as duties. Good luck to all that remain.

53 and was part of the 501 group fired due to this fake reorganization. It's possible to find a job at any age, you just have to be confident in who you are and not afraid to learn. I had 6 interviews in 2 weeks and had a new job two weeks after Follett let me go. Pay is the same with increases every few months and bonuses. I am not in retail anymore and I love it!

I am in your EXACT same position. My honest answer.... this is the first time I am NOT stressed about RUSH, because Follett has left me without the tools I need. I'm so over it all. I have been pushed past the breaking point. While I still love the school i work for, it's just unfortunate that Follett is so blind as to not see they have created an upcoming disaster.

But I now realize this is no longer my problem to fix. It's a problem I can't fix. I just don't have the resources and Follett has taken away our ability to make decisions. So what choice do we have?. I will just do the best job I can. If there is a complaint, it's going to my Market Leader or Regional to address. I am not going to ki-l myself anymore for a company that set me up for failure.

I guess to sum up. Do the best you can with what you have and at the end of the regular day, go home and try to relax with your family. It is really all you can do.

One team is the gaggle of weenies in the ivory tower trying to weed out under performing schools and employees by cutting hours, coming up with freaking planograms that do nothing but create chargebacks and tax the labor force we do not have, and then send a pant load of G M to put where there is no more room! The next treat might be an inventory conducted by non RGIS people. Maybe the RM could temp us some surplus staff from others stores?
