Thread regarding UPS layoffs

Why nearly no women UPS drivers? Look at the practice strike pickets to confirm this.

The Ups practice strike pickets all over the news media have almost no women UPS drivers. Women should equally get a chance to make $42.00 hr. and paid benefits. Checked multiple videos in multiple states.....same pattern. Anyone else seeing this?

Ask any Marine why he near always chooses a female Marine to partner... Response... because women never give up. Marines never quit the mission no matter what stands in their way, everything else comes second.

The UPS CEO does not care if the drivers of men or women. All she wants is to wring every penny out of these Teamster drivers to make the stock price go up. This union contract will cost her even more for the drivers pay and benefits, so expect the pressure on drivers to become more than ever.

What we all see is that woman do have equal opportunity to be a UPS driver if they want the job. Most do not.

The business and the union make cohesive decisions based on the requirements of Corporate to deliver the packages and rewarding the union employee. There is nothing historically s-xist here. The future of being a package driver at UPS is that it will always be a hard job to do, and one that most women do not want.

It is not a problem to woman that do not want to do the UPS driver job. They would rather pursue other union jobs or in Corporate management.

This subject is social agenda being pushed on Corporate America, irrelevant of the truth of what job a woman wants to do. 95% or more of independent plumbers are men. Plumbing pays well but is a very physical, sweaty dirty job, where you are often very cold (outdoors in a hole in the ground) or hot in a boiler room. This is much like being a driver at UPS, a job most women do not want.

The business and the union can make cohesive changes together and figure this most genuine problem easily. History will be in the past. Positive times ahead for women and all.

It appears some people think that who is hired to be a UPS driver is decided by Corporate and the CEO. It is not. The union contract makes this clear, and women have the same opportunity as men to bid on any union job, including being a driver. The opportunity to be driver is decided by seniority, as it should be, not gender.

Yep, betting the CEO will dig into to this and find out why this has happened and see that some male drivers are coming in early to preload (have seniority) and then do their route just make sure the females have no preload hours, so the females have to quit to eat before there is even a chance for the females to bid as a driver. The females only chance, is if a driver position comes up fast and there is no wait hardly, so she does not starve before bidding the open job. They do not do this to the males, only people some drivers do not want. Not right. Not solidarity.

The strike rally's have really brought this all to light. Confidence says next year if not in 6 months we will see a change happening. With a women at the top, she sees this same as we all do. Go girl and make it work!

There is equal opportunity for women to be drivers at UPS. Telling women they have to be makes no sense. It is up to them to decided. Saying that that the proof there is a problem is that you do not see 50% of drivers are women denies women their freedom of choice. To say anything else is proof that you have the problem.

Why is it a problem if women do not want to be UPS drivers? Why so much intolerance to their opinion that the job is not for them?

Proof is that any women at UPS that wants to be a driver can sign the bid sheet to be a driver and the Union will protect them irrelevant of their s-x. Most women do not want the job.

Having worked at UPS (management and union) I know that you are correct -most men do not want to rock the boat, but women will call out an injustice; this is admirable. Driver jobs are there for women if they want them, though most women choose not to be drivers. If the driver job is something that some really want to do, we all may benefit from their contributions.

Thank you. Women can do this job if they want to. File a grievance for harassment and abuse. It is the only thing UPS understands.

Ups driver position has zero requirements that a women cannot do. It is actually an easy job if you are in good shape but can have long hours if you are too chicken to file a grievance to only work the 9.5 hrs. each day. Women are not afraid to file the grievance, but some men are. Women on the job could shine a light and a path to those men in fear of being canned just because they stood up. Drivers dragging in last and past 9.5 hrs. signal weakness and could use some encouragement to hold their ground. Look for this at your own center and see if you can help.

Someone asked if there is a female UPS employee out there who wanted to be a UPS driver and was not given the same equal opportunity to do so as a man. No evidence of this yet. The truth is WOMEN DO NOT WANT TO DO THE DRIVER JOB. HELLO? ! It really is not a difficult concept to grasp (at least to not any semi-intelligent person, male or female). A diversity agenda cannot withstand the truth, women do not want to be UPS drivers; it really is that simple.

The diad holds less knowledge of driver activity than the truck ecm. Truck computer can see every time brakes are applied, accelerator, exhaust/pyrometer temps (denotes lead foot driver), time spent in reverse, reverse speed, seat belt fastened, air speed compared to fan speed, load shift(denotes careless driver) and more than any driver could ever imagine. Best to not be a runner g_ _ _ er or fall for pressure from a boss that is paid by the bonus system. Your numbers get their bonus and you will get the write up for unsafe practices. Be truly safe and just honest.

I don't know about China eating our lunch, but expecting to be paid to do a job just because you are a female is s-xist. The Teamsters will protect all of their brothers and sister against Corporate s-xism and harassment. Any women that wants to be a UPS driver can sign the bid sheet. I wish you ALL well in your career choices, where ever it may lead you.

The core problem is some people think they should simply be paid to do a job based off of their gender identity, not meeting being able tom meet the job requirements. Yes, you read that, these woke joke dummies really believe that. China is going to eat our lunch.

Trying to get the engine to derate to a crawl or running it in reverse at high speeds is simply wrong. Never heard of girls doing that stuff in the name of winning the game. If you cannot deliver the package just bring it back and smoke it on sort for next day delivery. Computers show all driver activity more than most drivers know.

Woke s-xist BS is the problem. Bid on the job, meet the union business requirements to do it, and all is well. Claiming your female gender as a special needs requirement will not earn you the driver position.

Both males and females are required to accept the union pre-loader requirements of gaining seniority in order to bid on a driver position. This is not a s-xist rule, but a union seniority rule. Sorry if it is frustrating to have to wait your turn to earn your chance to be a driver, but union contract seniority rules decide this, not your gender. Hang in there, you will get a chance to prove yourself!

Some of the drivers are afraid a girl driver may tell they are letting air out tires til nearly flat to gain backroad speeds or leaving the hand brakes loosened up on the small package cars so the computer alarm doesn't tell their bosses they are not applying the required hand brakes at all stops or putting wood in doors to make them appear locked just keep them open for next stop which risks theft or packages falling out. Make the engine pull a code just so there is an excuse for a missed package stop. These are all against UPS policy but some like to brag how fast they are and compare themselves to others. Whereas girls just tend to focus on their own route only.

Issue; New female employee starts as preloader, mentions hopes to bid as driver. Opening is a long way off. Drivers do not want this person to be a driver. Hours are only 3.5 per day 5 days wk. Drivers use seniroity to come in early to preload then drive rest of day. This cuts female to working 1 day a wk or less and she cannot live on that. Drivers keep cutting her out til she has to quit to pay bills. Mission accomplished. Male comes in same job starts as preloader but no drivers bump him off preload and he sails thru and bids driver opening and is helped thru probation.
Very few women UPS drivers are not caused by the union or the company. Drivers are picking who they want sometimes. More to story behind photos of near all male drivers.

The attitude of entitlement today of this generation is incredible. Bid on the driver's job, irrelevant of your gender identity, and do the job adequately. It really is not complicated.

Some dirt bag men may fear working with women but the union will protect every female drivers job as long as they are working per the union contract; you are protected. Your second hand story is appreciated though, thank you. Do your job, and no worries, ignore other peoples BS.

One female driver a few years back mentioned male drivers have a secret like click and are aware of each other's customer romances and bad habits due to helping each other on routes for years, even though some are married drivers. They feared any female driver finding out and telling their wives. The female driver assured them she was just there to work and could care less about their personal secrets. It is these silly little things that cause some men to fear working with women and causes them to discourage any female workers. When will people ever learn we are all human and make mistakes both male and female.

There you go, Mother Jones gave women a voice and the power of a union on their side. Another good example is the Lawrence textile strike of 1912. The issue is not the gender ratio or that women cannot be drivers if they want to be. They claimed this power over 100 years ago. Women have every opportunity to be a driver at UPS; they do not want it.

If not for unions women likely would be banned from most refineries, railroads and non traditional work. "Mother Jones" fought for union rights for men coal miners back in the 1800's. She fought tooth and nail for all those men, when they would not stand up for themselves. She was put in jail several times. Fought for simple rights for all up til she was about 93 yrs old. Died at 100yrs. old. Stood 5ft. tall. Gritty women are a huge asset in a union environment. She really never saw a working difference between men or women. Something we can learn from today.

Some people see a picture of drivers that are mostly men and this offends them. There is something s-xist and hate filled in people that are bothered by this. If they want to play in the sandbox and earn the money, any woman can put their name in on the the driver bid sheet to do the job. Most women do not want to.
