I am a little disappointed with what the job market has to offer. What are your experiences with trying to get a new job?

I am a little disappointed with what the job market has to offer.
Someone with your qualifications should have no difficulty finding a job in either the food service or housekeeping industries
(as Bill Murray once famously said).
I am leaving Oracle after less than 2 years as I dont see a career path for me here.
I am based in a Western European country, they have just posted my role to find a backfill in a low cost Eastern European country…..which is exactly what I predicted they will do with those non billable / no revenue generating roles in a mid/long term.
Some friends of mine think I am just crazy as I will probably work double than here but staying in the same position when you are not learning much while you get older will just take you out of the market in 5 years when Oracle slowly move all those roles to India or Eastern Europe to the low cost market …
I left oracle for a cybersecurity company and found out my manager was someone who pushed all the “isms” and discrimination. I gave my notice with nothing in early 2023; that was a mistake as he was let go a week later. I joined a smaller firm a month ago and the job title had zero to do with the actual job. I gave my notice in 4 days. Thankfully I saved a ton of money over the years and don’t need to just “take a job”. Gonna enjoy my summer and take some classes.
Most of the available jobs are in the Services sector, think of areas like: travel, lodging, food, etc.
Once you get into Technology you are competing more and more on a global basis.
I manage a global team of about 60 individuals for one of the largest SW companies and ten years ago the majority of my team was in US and Western European countries. Today the majority of my team is in what's call "low cost" countries. I see in another 5 years the strategic direction will come from the home country of these tech companies ( like US) which only requires a small headcount and all of the production and development will take place out of these Low Cost Countries.
It's not a pretty picture for workers in the high cost locales.
This is the most brutal market that I’ve been in since the Great Recession.
I’ve been looking to get out of Oracle for over a year, am in a big US city and have two FAANGs on my resume with nice tenure at both. My interview rates on applications with referrals has never been worse.
The competition in tech is just too fierce right now, with so many layoffs and not a ton of roles.
I don’t think this will improve until mid 2024. You are competing with the thousands of people who got laid off, plus tech people who want to change jobs, and not a lot of openings. Hopefully inflation continues to go down and a soft landing is realized so the market can normalize again, so headcount growth can resume. Will definitely take a while though.
Sometimes the job market is a little disappointed in who’s out there!
A two way street.
I think depends on lots of factors, first: where are you based ? …
Second … your YOE and current TC and role and what your expectations are…
