Thread regarding Kyndryl layoffs

Will Kyndryl turn out the same way?

Cutting edge skills don't come for free...somebody has to do the training, either via coursework or learning on the job. If Kyndryl management treats the employees like IBM did, then it doesn't matter who the employees are or where they came from. They'll be used up and wasted in a very few years.

If Kyndryl employees are just going through the motions and not adding skills or responsibility, then that's the fault of poor management for creating such a work environment. Truth be told, that's the typical environment for an IT body shop...Kyndryl certainly isn't the first outfit to be like this, nor will it be the last. Not every IT shop is willing to pay for cutting edge skills...they'll settle instead for average people who are looking for a paycheck, who will do what they're told and not make waves. That's what IBM GTS turned out to be in the end...average pay, no training, no test lab environments, etc. We'll see if Kyndryl turns out the same way.

"Honey, Kyndryl won't be in business much longer to find out."

Kyndryl is a slow melting iceberg. It won't go away fast, but it will eventually melt away. Clients are not renewing contracts and slowly shifting services to other providers that are innovating. New contracts are elusive and there is little more going on than simply reselling products from partners...which what a VAR does, not a systems integrator as Kyndryl claims to be.

When manager says I need to acquire new skills, that means he wants me to take bunch of exams for partnerships, nothing to do with upskill. I studies for more year and passed few cloud certifications and then ask him to find me a related project so i could put my new skills to work but he couldn't. My certifications have expired but I'm still do same old sh-t. Now whenever he asks me to take certification exam, my default answer is NO.

Kyndryl will continue on it's path of mediocrity being neither a compelling choice for clients nor will it be even remotely innovative.

Kyndryl will be around for a while in some form or another, because there are existing multi-year contracts and revenue is still coming in. But the temptation will be really strong to double-down on the bad habits that sunk GTS...increased year-to-year efficiency is built into the terms of service of those contracts, and that means yearly cost take-out. It's not hard to predict what will happen to all the employees...they'll likely make the same sacrifices that they made at IBM, if only to keep their jobs. Forget cutting-edge skills...keeping their paychecks will be the desirable skill to have.
