Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

You didn't do anything wrong

There hasn't been performance criteria used in years ! Just ask hundreds of us who have been riffed before yourself who had great reviews, were considered the go-to persons for advice/questions/problem solving. They aren't sitting down with managers or sr managers ahead of time and having a pow-wow about who stays or who goes. There is some secret algorithm being run....- that looks at how much you make, how many years service, and what severance they would have to pay get someone off the payroll. In others words, how can they maximize the cost savings based on the group. In the case of the CS orgs being decimated in this case, this wouldnt apply because it sounds like entire orgs are going to be sent offshore to vendors. DO NOT BELIEVE FOR ONE MOMENT YOU DID ANYTHING WRONG. THIS IS THE WAY OF ALL CORPORATIONS NOW...THEY SUCK.

An older post by @1tha+1mNJBOrF that should be revisited now. We all need a reminder of this from time to time.

You can't spend your whole life worrying about your mistakes. You & Up. You trusted them. Make the best of it.

Keep your skills relevant and prepare your finances as is if you are going to get RIFd tomorrow.

It’s not your fault you got laid off.. it’s the companies.. no it’s an algo.. maybe it’s Jesus who did it? If your not asking yourself what you could have done better.. you’re not doing yourself any good at all. Keep wasting time blaming the world and not growing.

It's really obvious stop being nice and start asking real questions when you can. Its your life and in the end you demand answers both as an employee and as a customer. They can't continue to say pay no attention to what happening at the top.they can't continue to just say keep producing while they fail and your effort goes nowhere in the end you lose all around. What will happen you will leave they lose the net promoter there family and any future business.

I wouldn't call it an algorithm. I would call it rac!$m and/or s-x!sm. At least in IT. What percentage of VZ employees (particularly IT) are from India? > 80% ? Over the past few years, what percentage of RIFs were from India? 0% ?

The only VZ US management employees left are basically just diversity tokens to look good on paper. They are generally used to sign/process clearance paperwork to send more jobs/work to India (so it doesn't look like the major conflict of interest that it is). Or they are Sr Managers who coordinate meetings, townhalls, etc for their male execs from India. They are overpaid "administrative assistants".

Agreed, what a windfall. Sarcastic, based on what merits for a job well done.

Agree, as there is some input from the management and then compile the list.

However, it is very unlikely to have legal actions be submitted against the corporation unless if VZ made a glaring error based on the consultant company complied list.

It's an algorithm that makes the picks after the managers determine who is expendable.

Then the algo makes the picks to minimize the number of lawsuits against the company and also explains why there is always so much trash in the rotation after a layoff.

If you got laid off, I am sorry for your trouble and hope that you can get something similar or better elsewhere.

Most of the leadership and management responsible for this mess will be gone within the next two years and I would be surprised if there were not a significant amount of rehires once competent leadership is returned to the company. Right now it is loserville.
