Thread regarding Capital One layoffs

Don't take things personally

It's time to look for a new job because this place is a mess…
It's hard not to take some things personally, but always having an excellent performance and then being put on PIP shouldn't be seen as a personal failure, but as a downward spiral that this place is facing. Just my 2 cents…

I was a manager there for a few years and couldn’t ever wrap my head about the performance management culture there. Truly bizarre. Even Rich’s HR people loathe it but he won’t budge and changing it. It’s even more bizarre watching all the people who loathe it continue to play the game and staying with the company solely for the attractive paycheck. I personally couldn’t take it anymore, became a pain in the a-s, and as expected, was “redeployed.” I got the last laugh when the severance check hit my account.

To poster @kpm+1n8RODpz

So tech laid people off yesterday... and they're doing calibration again (with the intention) to lay more people off after MY? That's just messed up.

I hope you all stay strong and best of luck.

I'm poster @kpm+1n8RODpz

I was in an office today. I saw a group of people in an open plan floor seating with a flimsy curtain for privacy. I was immediately suspicious and became more so when I kept hearing them talking. I then saw the same group of people put a presentation on a projector, it was a performance calibration template of an employee in a tech subdivision, the template was the same color and format as the one I and coworkers had to fill out. I then checked the electronic monitor showing what meetings were scheduled for room, it showed "tech division name - associate performance management". So tech is doing layoffs because some were let go yesterday.

I felt dazed, ashamed, and then dirty and angry. Those people I could tell didn't live in California so they flew out just to fire and go on a vacation and get f*d up on partyin' and alcohol. I hope the plane crashes on their return flight.

Wait until you are in a room like I was where you have to come up with a PIP for a strong employee who has now been downgraded to below because of forced distribution. An employee who will be confused because you have never coached them and now you are making up a PIP on them so you can fire them and save the extra money vs laying them off. Wait to see how dirty you feel then. This is causing me health issues I’m so upset. I have no problem with PIPs when they are deserved but these are being done to save the company money.

Place is f×ing disgusting. Even those in tech roles were fired this week. A team was doing stack rankings inside an office I was in. Felt dirty.
