Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Uptick in LOAs

So many people are taking leaves of absence. It's the one lever we still have. The significant increase is obviously due to RTO mandate. WF would be wise to reassess its stance and leadership, given that companies don't achieve their goals when the soldiers are defecting mentally and physically.

With that said, the BOD hired a hatchet man, not a motivator or visionary. Their plan appears to be running WF into the ground and selling off pieces to competitors before imploding.

Depends on whether you want to be paid or not.

Paid leaves of absence are for disability. You present to the physician with a diagnosable, acute mental or physical problem that is severe enough that the judgement of the physician is that you are disabled - AND the disability insurer will review and decide whether they agree or disagree.

Unpaid leaves of absence can be for other reasons under FMLA (such as caring for a sick family member) or personal leave of absence. These are all detailed on teamworks.

How do you otherwise functioning people who can hold this job somehow suddenly convince a doctor to sign the necessary paperwork stating that you cannot work due to mental health?

Serious inquiry. I'm a wreck mentally most days and often contemplate resignation, but I don't feel like a doctors going to say - yeah, Bif can't work right now.

People who have been displaced but are still on their non-working notice period will show as “on leave of absence”

Other than that, there’s nothing unique about WF - record increases and levels of disability coming out of the stress of the pandemic. Plus lots of deferred medical attention in pandemic now showing up as discovery of serious medical issues that require LOA.

First they came for the dead wood, and I didn't care because I imagine myself a hard worker.

Then they came for the pregnant women and people with diseases, and I didn't care, because those are "entitlements" and I neurologically lack the capacity for empathy.

Then they came for overpaid computer janitors whose jobs can be done by Indian high schoolers for a fraction of the cost...and there was no-one left to care.

Are you just looking at the internal tools? Because getting laid off results in being shown as being on leave of absence during the 60 day notification period. Today was a layoff day, which means everybody notified today has been put on LOA today.

LOAs are up across the entire economy. Started in 2021. I'll let you guess why.
