Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Imagine This LEG and LUG Employees

Imagine if the gas distribution unit in Ontario was not a monopoly and actually had to compete in the marketplace with other gas distribution companies for customers? 😂

I wonder how long it would take for it to go out of business?🤔

Do you think your supervisor or manager would still have a job? 🤔

Would you take your experience and try to work for a better competitor? 🤨

Is mediocre management (at best) a byproduct of natural monopolies? 👍

spend some time understanding the role of the OEB and allowed profit. This monopoly is heavily regulated.

There are a few smaller local companies... In Kingston, Kitchener, and Epcor in Aylmer and area.
I'd love to see them all expand.

I think Elon Musk should buy it and then build new Enbridge gas networks on mars. Anyone who is not performing to acceptable standards gets kicked off the planet into the vast dark emptiness of space.

If there other companies out there that are interested in the utility business, the government could potentially create real competition by allowing citizens of each municipality vote for who their gas distributor is.
If the incumbent utility loses the vote, the one taking over would be able to purchase all their assets (mains, services and meters) at a fair market price and take over operations. The best provider in the eyes of the public wins the title of being the local monopoly for a set amount of years until the next election.
You could essentially have a massive patchwork of interconnected gas utilities across the province.
