Wells Fargo ($5 billion) and other banks ($25 billion) made a huge $30 billion deposit to try to keep First Republic afloat.
This was pushed by the administration and government, which absolutely hates Wells Fargo.
We did their bidding, saved them from having to take the political heat on bailouts, and now we’re going to lose a lot of money from it.
See the headlines today. The government is working with First Republic to try to get the big banks to OVERPAY for First Republic’s low interest rate assets.
If we give in again we will take an immediate loss on the purchase.
We’re trying to buy favors from politicians so we can get out of the asset cap. We’ve been doing it for years now, going back to COVID, when we did all those PPP loans and handed over the fees to causes that the DNC generally likes.
Now we’re going to bail out a bank for them.
When are they going to do us a favor? Probably never.
Just say no, Charlie.
