My boss had the nerve to offer me a promotion that would drastically increase my workload and require me to deal with even more incompetent id--ts, but I would get no raise with it. No, I'd get a new title, which is supposed to do what for me? When I refused, he warned me that not being a team player is looked down on. Can you believe the audacity?

You made a mistake.
You should have accepted the title and use that to find a higher paying position at another company. The workload for this new position would have been less than your current position.
Declining the offer would only make sense if you intended to stay. But you just put yourself first in line to be laidoff, so you won't be staying long.
Similar thing happened to me except I was never even asked. A new manager started giving me work in addition to my already existing workload. Found out later I was being moved to new org.
OP is right to be offended...and sadly manager is right as well, refusal to accept the "opportunity" will be marked down in "permanent file"...print up that resume! If you can't change the rules, change the game.
Next time (if there is one), tell them that your talents are better suited as an individual contributor. You are only looking out for the company's best interest after all.
