Congress request to pull plug Oracle Cerner

Washington, D.C. – Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) today released the following statement in support of terminating Oracle Cerner’s electronic health record (EHR) system:

“The Oracle Cerner electronic health record system has been a complete failure. It has caused serious harm to patients, devastated morale amongst employees and providers, and created a crisis of confidence for veterans,” said Rodgers. “I have long supported the goal of modernizing our health record system to better care for our nation’s heroes. Unfortunately, despite billions of dollars and every possible opportunity for improvement, it’s become abundantly clear that there is no coming back from the mess the Department of Veterans Affairs has made with this deeply broken system. It’s time to pull the plug. We need to go back to a system that works immediately and deliver on our promise to give veterans in Eastern Washington the best care our country has to offer.”

In addition to her statement, Cathy today announced her support for the Department of Veterans Affairs Electronic Health Record Modernization Termination Act (H.R. 608), which would officially end the Oracle Cerner EHR system. This comes just days after the Department of Veterans Affairs announced that future deployments of the new Electronic Health Record (EHR) system would be halted indefinitely.

NOTE: Cathy has demanded accountability and called for increased transparency from the Department of Veterans Affairs since the EHR system was rolled out at facilities in Spokane and Walla Walla. Her efforts intensified last summer after an investigation found 149 veterans were harmed by the system and that VA leadership manipulated data concerning training proficiency on the new system. You can view a full timeline of her actions here.

Healthcare is serious business

And Medical Records is extremely serious business. Continuity and accuracy of information and subsequent treatment(s) based on those records can result in tragic outcomes if broken. Sadly, we just learned that the hard way.

People need to be held accountable for this. Either due to negligence or outright fraud (knowingly released a defective product), but held accountable regardless.

4 people dieing.
I think OP that posted article praised both congresswomen for standing up for what is right. He said he did not agree with politics to both that he mentioned in two separate responses to the poster that deflected - that degraded congresswoman. It is bipartisan committee and he should know that … he gets nervous about doing what is right, truth, etc. he’s headed down a slippery slope
The facts remain:
4 People died and that is important
Oracle failed and needs to take responsibility.

Oracle has no regard for people and then should not have gotten into healthcare.

Sicilia was questioned by Congress last year after the Cerner acquisition and seemed to say everything was going to be alright. After this post, I wonder what went wrong. Also, seems like we’ve made a lot of cr-p acquisitions, as soon as we make them, we don’t sell enough to justify the spend and then LE moves on to something else. Really just a waste of $$$. Why don’t we just stick to what we’re good at.

And I don’t agree with Maxine Waters politics but I do respect that she asked I.T. Consultant during a congressional hearing when Twitter was sold/purchased that… didn’t he think since Big Tech Corps just pay the courts/ govt agencies hundreds of millions of dollars when they get caught at something but nothing ever changes, they keep doing it - (she asked) if he thought that sentencing them to serve time in prison might get their attention for their lack of ethics? He said he did agree that imprisonment would be the only way to get them to be lawful.

Now wouid be a good time for a full investigation of long list of things at most Big Tech Corps starting with Oracle.
I don’t think upper mgmt and the Board of Directors have a clue how many are corrupt in their wall of middle mgmt VPs.
That their lack accountability has ruined Oracle.
Stockholders, employees & customers It is a publicly held entity and all deserve full disclosure of their activities.

I don’t agree with her politics but I have to say that I admire that she stood up for what is right, against one the top ten republican contributors.
The fact is. People died that shouldn’t have. Healthcare is serious business

I wonder too what will be next and which industry LE will explore.
He’s lost his King Midas touch. He needs to retire.
I think like Howard Hughes he will lose his
mind before it’s over.

Cathy McMorris Rodgers is a homophobic, evangelical, election-denying Trumpster. Based upon that only, I'd reject her opinion on any topic whatsoever.

I'm not surprised. It was total chaos where I was in the company. I expect that to pretty much be everywhere. If you manage only by the numbers on a spreadsheet and hire the cheapest you can get, you can expect disaster.

Also, have to wonder how much vetting the purchase went through. Sometimes pushing from the top layers makes everyone say "yes" down the line, even if perhaps they should have said "no".

As it stands now, Oracle couldn't organize a one car funeral. What made them think they could get into the medical records field? To say this is catastrophic would be an understatement,

Now that LE's foray into the medical records field has crashed and burned, what other industry will he try to buy his way into?

I would think that Oracle outside of Cerner has already been affected -- they are consolidating orgs. which is obvious that there will be less middle mgt.
just hope they know who is corrupt and who is not.

Most people believe that LE paid too much for Cerner but, it could be just the beginning of Oracle's expense. People have died. Bet every lawyer is chasing the victims family members that, will slam dunk with a jury trial. Big Tech billions can be distributed.

Sounds like this is Oracle software at fault at Cerner. I'm sure Oracle will try to settle. It's a shame.
I don't get how the bad characters at Oracle do not realize that, bad things happen when you treat people, badly. No one is indispensable.
It will be interesting to see what happens.
