If you think you're special and safe, you're wrong. Oracle management views every single one of us as very replaceable. They might pretend you're safe until they find somebody cheaper who can do the same things you can. Here or in India or somewhere else, it doesn't matter. As soon as that happens, you're gone.

This. Don't kid yourself. If your employer no longer needs you, you're gone.
In other news, my brother works for a European multinational in the US. He and his colleagues were informed by HR that they could be terminated for using the wrong pronouns for a colleague. He does get yearly raises and bonuses.
I was cut at the critical point of a very high profile project. And I was the lead and primary developer.
No great loss. Developers are like lightbulbs. Replace them with the cheapest ones that you can find.

Honestly, it is no different from any of the other hi-tech ? Name me one that does not do layoff when the market condition is not good.

Truth.
Problem is that this attitude also exists at many other companies. Job search wisely and ask a ton of questions.
