It's clear that in the majority of cases, managers are not the ones who are determining which people should be laid off. That makes no sense. Who other than your manager knows better how much you contribute to your team and the company? Why take that out of the equation?

RT and MS ran OA & CX into the ground and were rewarded with continued employment. Not so much for 2/3rds of their employees. And more to come!
Layoffs are all about numbers, so it’s left to the head spreadsheet jockey to tweak the macros until the correct amount of savings is achieved.
Understand this leaves zero room for any thing that you can’t quantify with dollars. Conveniently, this also allows companies to jettison certain “mistakes” without being scrutinized. Because it’s nothing “personal” it’s business. 🤷♂️
Americans put up with this since they’ve all swallowed the whole “USA, WE ARE THE BEST” rhetoric force fed to them through culture and media. Just like their corporate overlords expect, while your coworkers in other countries enjoy a much more balanced and humane experience.
Every employee with the exceptions of LE & SC are always at risk. There are no personal feelings about anyone. The higher up the position is the more insecure that position has. Things are diff now … they don’t care. If they choose to eliminate jobs there is nothing that can be done. It’s a shame that you didn’t know this before you started working at O.
Good luck. Take care of you so that you can take care of those in your life.
Say you were at the top and it was determined that 3000 employees across geographies and Orgs need to be RIF'd. How would you go about it? If you gave some time to the lower Management to come up with the list, at some point the news is going to leak and staff, even the good ones fearing RIF, would go on a long sick leave. In many cases subordinates are in a different country than their manager. Local laws come into picture which the Manager has no clue about.
These days, Raif’s are not performance based. AI has made you redundant.
