Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Anyone else hearing the rumors?

Anyone else hear the rumor that after the layoffs a full RTO of being announced?

Heard that this week.

So if you survive you have to drive into the office everyday.

Oh the other rumor is all remote employees (that do not live in Michigan) will be laid off.

Bill doesn't care about leverage whether or not RTO give leverage or not. He does care about appeasing his politician friends.

Makes no sense. Severance packages serve one purpose, to avoid lawsuits, which we haven't been on the winning side too often.

As of end of March, there are no more hirings even for Model e departments. All Directors were told to revise their line-up to identify at least 25% of next up employees to be involuntary separated . HR was successful last August doing involuntary separation that now they will be the norm to reduce headcount. Since China stopped making several carlines and they have a lot of engineering manpower available, all new projects (new F150, Superduty, Explorer, etc.) will be assigned to China Team. Ford North America will just mentor their development in the early stages then that personnel will be fired.
Sourcing will be done in China, Purchasing NA will lost headcount as well. The same goes for all Manufacturing DIvisions. All sub-assemblies will be imported to Brazil and re-exported to USA or Canada A-s'y lines since there will be potential trade issues w/China.
There is also discussions to have India Engineering and Purchasing teams share the workload with China Teams.
These discussion are already at manager / supervisor level, where they were tasked to identify the mentors for China and India teams. Those mentors will be people who either will be expected to retire in less than two years with the option to be fired by HR with updated severance package (% of what it used to be in order to save $)

Ford must be special.

All the tier ones and other OEMs can’t find enough people with pulses, that don’t have heart issues, to engineer and design in for their EV special projects. Perhaps ICE, but not electrical. Scrapping the bottom of the barrel with people of barely any talent today.

There is zero leverage with return to office. None. Zero. Zilch.

Its strategic.

Layoff forces a stack rank and cut exercise at the discretion of the manager. Company will on purpose undershoot what the actual target of the layoff is. Then RTO is a way to catch the rest of that target with a combination of voluntary departures, and "job abandonment" by missing work onsite. The purpose being to reach the intended layoff separation %, while avoiding severance for those two RTO separation reasons. The company wants and needs some degree of anger to spread else people won't leave/get fired and have to resort back to severance backed layoffs.

Yeah, at least Farley's cousin was funny!

Sad this RTO policy. Given in 2020 when numerous Executives including the furniture guy Art Van and Legend in his own Mind Farley were both said during 2020 that we would never return to office. So how is that going to work with FORD E? A lot of those folks are not automotive and live outside the state. Sounds like a Law Suit coming.

Farley is nothing but a blow hard. Nobody believes the "GRECIAN FORMULA MAN". His time at Ford for delivering is BLANK. He claims to be a product guy but since he hired in our market share has fallen. So much for that one. Glad I retired in 2020. Guy is a loser.

Haven’t heard the full RTO. We were recently told that we must come into the office on two non-consecutive days starting in June. We currently must come in on Wed. Starting in June it is Mon and Wed. Another area is Tues Thur.
Personally I think it is an effort to force some of the older people to retire as we do the same work at home. Several of the older people relocated outside of SE michigan (Charlevoix, Traverse City, etc) and currently stay one night a week at relatives home.

People still leaving. Not enough "capable" people to do the work. A mandatory RTW would drive more "real" talent away. In case you haven't noticed every program is in dis-array.

I highly doubt that. There are many areas of the company that are still hiring remote and have numerous remote workers.

Just because Jimmy has a boy crush on Musk doesn’t make us a company that people would enslave themselves to work. Musk has a cult following. From what I am hearing all over the place is that the culture at Ford is toxic and morale is at an all time low. The only way they could pull that off is during a recession and when we get out of it, there is no question people will run to leave. I already know many are doing that now and not out of the fear of layoffs. Just because they don’t like the culture at Ford.

Not hearing these rumors nor putting much value on hearing them either. There's been plenty of false pot stirring and trolling here for a long while, no sense in getting worked up about it at all.

Not sure where you are getting your info from. I heard that employees that wish to remain employees will be required to come into work (ie. Dearborn) 7 days per week with those 16 hours of weekend days mandatory unpaid.

There isn't enough cubicle space for all the employees? Just reduce the number of employees. Mexico has space and people willing to go in to the office.

There is NOT enough cubicle space for every one to return to office every day. At least for those working in PDC.
