Low incoming SRs in Application Support Org

Since the beginning of the year the inflow of SRs have slowed down drastically. This makes me nervous about possible RIFs in the near future. Has anyone else noticed the same thing ?

“AI is another buzzword. It’s not going to replace code developers.”

Keep telling yourself that.

It doesn’t matter if AI can actually do the job. The point is that HR believes that it can, so they will fire, and then rehire when the truth comes out, three years later … after you are gone!

“ Yes support is highly technical and clinical at manufacturing a crisis and then dumping it on Dev. Combing through logs…..???”

That is the hierarchy that has been established. If you are getting incomplete or problematic escalations from your support level, it’s a training and management problem. Or maybe you could actually talk to the people filling your with dumped issues to determine wtf the problem is?

AI is another buzzword. It’s not going to replace code developers. The work is too detailed to do that. It can’t do everything. People who are not developers may think that because they are looking at it from 1000 feet and don’t really understand the complexity of what developers do. It can mush together and regurgitate stuff found on the web. It is more likely to replace marketing and support. This is if there is enough content out there for it to mush together.

the discussion about Support vs Dev is irrelevant. Both have its own function in the business. Anyone saying one of them is irrelevant doesn’t understand the business well enough.

i was talking about FA support. We in FA support have half the number of SRs compared to last year. They did let some people go late last year, but still not enough i guess

Dream on. Is support headcount down by 15% in last one year ?

Which product/s ? . In EBS support , sr count has gone down but so are the number of people. So still the incoming justifies the current number of resources i think.

This comment is obviously from someone who doesn't understand what Support does. Probably an AI developer who thinks they are safe from losing their job and wants to talk down to others in the technology field. Well news flash. You are not safe either.

ChatGPT is not just a threat to Support. AI can also write code (Developers), perform data security tasks (Cybersecurity), increase automation functions (QA testing), and design more optimize systems (Architects) just to name a few. All technology jobs will be affected or eliminated by AI. Even the AI developer jobs.

And just so you know, not all of Support does simple call center work of taking calls and opening tickets. Some Support roles are highly technical at the Engineering level working with databases, combing through log files, troubleshooting server issues, handling access and permission problems, etc. Even if Support did only answer phones we are all important here and need our jobs. No one is better than anyone else because they have a certain title or make a certain salary. We are expendable. Especially to Oracle.

There are many older folks in the Support Org who are just riding it out until max (or close to max) SS benefits kick in. However, if you are based in the US and under the age of 50ish, you better be upgrading your skill-set NOW! It’s not hard to read the tea leaves on this one.

Why does support even exist ? They’re more folks with fancy titles all over support for doing call center work and aria pictures make them suitable for work other then tech. Customers would be better off to use ChatGPT instead.

The right thing to do is to get rid of some of the middle management
