Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Was fun while it lasted.

I joined Fiserv an eager individual to get into the fintech world and everyone I had the privilege of talking to has been amazing. WFH m+f meant I can have my life back, no micro managing, all my work was getting done AND some. As of recently, I’ve been noticing more and more and more measures that are being taken to “incite collaboration” aka RTO. The once happy and excited environment has been spiraling into a sad, depressing circus. Leadership talks about flexibility that isn’t there, the parking does not suit the amount of employees that are RTO, and now others are resorting to finding a way to get around the system. This is no longer fun, I am very grateful for what Fisv has taught me but please do something for your associates besides ERG groups ffs.

Absolutely no one is excited to be in fintech. I lol’d at this. It’s a job that pays the bills

Maybe they want to weed out disloyal workers. It is hard to indoctrinate someone into the fully obedience of company culture or in short cult. The other reason that comes to my mind is saving on severance pay, if employee leaves volentarily, company will not pay the unvested stock and severance package. If a lot of people leave then the jobs could be outsourced to cheaper countries...

Also the culture now breeds even more toxicity. People are tattletaling on each other about when others are getting in office and leaving office. People are angry at loud people as their cube mates and everyone is generally unhappy. RTO 4 days a week looks a lot different for an exec with a 4 walled office. The cube farms are not conducive for productive, enjoyable work. Go back to more hybrid so not EVERYONE is in office at once. It just makes sense.

You know what the funny thing is about being so restrictive? Instead of making positive contributions, employees will spend more time trying to figure out how to beat the system. This is where Fiserv is at, because of short-sighted and small-minded leadership.

Crowded noisy open office and comute time are the worst. For what? All my colleagues are sitting behind their desk with noise canceling headphones so they avoid listening to conversation from the other side of the building which is a lot of times not related to work at all. The rest is going to office for few hours or minutes so they keep HR off their back. Also rivalry over desk reservations, nobody wants to sit right next to walking path.

Same here, this was my first role in fintech and I was genuinely excited to be a part of it all and learn new things. I live far but was willing to make it work with the 3/2.. well not anymore. Id rather take a pay cut and go somewhere else that isnt miserable than stay here any longer than I have to.
