Thread regarding PNC layoffs

RTO for remote workers

I was hired by PNC in 2022 as a permanent fully remote position. It was clearly stated that way by HR and the hiring manager. Then after a few months I was told I needed to start working from the office a few days a week. It seemed like a bait and switch process. Has anyone else have a similar experience? Any options other than looking for a new job? I like my job but it seems to be stupid to go into the office and work virtually with the team. None of my co-workers are in the same city.

Yes, they did this for all my Pittsburgh and Cleveland people.

Personally I don't care if they go in since my team is all across the country. But ya, they hired some people fully remote and pulled that. A few left and some stayed.

I know someone who got a doctor's note for exemption for RTO due to anxiety. Not sure about the form from ER the doctor needs to fill out but there are ways around it

I was offered remote by PNC last March.. Took the position, and then August RTO was announced. Then today I'm laid off . I live too far to commute daily to Pittsburgh. I was in a lead technology role under ET&S , had great relationships with my team and manager, great success on the projects I'm on . . and Today laid off with the other 6499 people. 10%... Did not see it coming.. stinks... GL all affected.

I was hired permanently remote for the last 3 years. I live in Pittsburgh, none of my team works in Pittsburgh. Our team was told that if you live near a tech center you need to start coming in twice a week. This basically meant that we would be calling each other from our respective offices in different states. This adds time to my day, cost in gas, and parking in the hundreds of dollars a month.

To top it off, they told us it was because If pnc doesn't have enough people working in downtown Pittsburgh, then it will lose a tax break it is getting.

Summary: PNC forces commuting cost on employees to ensure they also get their tax money.

Not legal. If they offered full remote in your offer letter, they are in breach. The .gov websites have a lot of resouces for this.
