Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

Worst managed layoffs

Of all the layoffs that I survived here, I think these are the worst managed ones. Do you agree?

I retired from Sabre 7 years ago. I always 'held my breath' when layoffs were 'discussed'. I was one of the fortunate ones that got to work there for 23 years unscathed. The day I walked out the door, I never looked back (literally drove down the driveway and kept going). I was one of the lucky ones that worked there when Sam Gilliland was CEO. Those were the best, most lucrative years EVER at Sabre.

This is the 5th layoff I've somehow survived. It is far and away the most poorly communicated and executed. The faux compassion from people who are actually incapable of human emotion is just sickening. Either leadership is the d-mbest bunch of people I have ever seen, or the plan is for Sabre to be diced up and squeezed out and end up like so many other formally reputable American companies that are burned to the ground in the name of greed.
I figure the vast majority of us remaining will be leaving as soon as we can. I've enjoyed my time here and while in ways it's been a gradual decline all along, it's no longer so gradual.

Been with this company for many years (was impacted this time) and like others saw many many layoffs throughout the years, since it is Sabres nature to do layoffs. This massacre is just outright shocking and so many of the folks let go were the glue within their teams. So horribly put together with the 10 day announcement. One thing that was about as unclassy as it gets was during the town hall a mention of layoffs and almost in same breath, but oh, those left will get a raise in July. Seriously, could you have left that unmentioned until the "all people have been notified" email went out and then let them know about July raises. Then the badly written GW note that went out last week. Looks like "someone" didn't let Corp Com proofread the broadcast before sending it. The financial ramifications will be interesting and I know they expect attrition afterwards, but I think Sabre may be in for a HUGE surprise that the attrition will end up much higher than their formula of how many will look for new jobs. Still a lot of great folks left but they will have to deal with the low performers still at Sabre.

They seemed to have followed the script from the George Clooney movie 'Up in the Air'. It was done poorly with those reading their 'script' looking and sounding foolish rather than the professional leaders they purport to be.

The COBRA situation is an interesting dichotomy. I paid $400 a month for my wife and son, and that’s almost unheard of. My W-2 said the cost of my insurance was over $20K a year, and no way I’ll be picked up COBRA.

But, it was one helluva benefit. Makes me wonder if premiums will go up, PTO will decrease and the year end shutdown is gone.

This is the second time I've been affected by layoffs, and by far the most unorganized with seemingly no realistic end goal in sight. Big wigs blowing smoke where the sun don't shine; this company won't be around much longer. Good luck to all of those leaving, but also to those who are staying.

Oh and I never hassle with COBRA, its ridiculous. I have a buddy who helps me out with my insurance, I don't know what the guidelines are for posting his info here though. Comment if you're interested and we'll figure it out.

I’ve been in IT for 24 years and been through over half a dozen layoffs and was never impacted. I’m here a little over a year because they wanted to build a US team, and then this.

Made absolutely no sense to tell everybody 10 days in advance, either. They worked with HR to get their number in advance….

Performance and value weren’t even a consideration. At this point, I feel bad for the ones who are left…. It’s only gonna get way worse.

I agree, this whole "process" has been ridiculous. It's been extremely stressful and unorganized to say the least. I'm trying not to panic over my benefits. My family needs to have health coverage, and I've heard that Cobra is an overpriced joke. Best of luck to all out there who have been affected.
