Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

KB is out

Many will say it this took too long. Many years of decline in Consumer business to be honest it took too long. Not sure if this is Sampath, but it could be a good move for change in VCG.

My store along with 4 others in my district were sold off to indirects several years ago. I was a manager in 13 stores for 8 years and got laid off over the phone on my day off. This was all done under KB’s leadership.

Verizon has changed. It changed the moment Lowell stepped down, sold all his stock. This changed with Hans. A failed CEO who made profits look good by laying off the most tenured employees in his previous roles before being let go. When my group was layed off he held an all hands without mentioning us with the entire leadership team. It was the largest layoff in the history of the company. For people who had given 17-25 years to Vzw that was hard. Not even a “thank you”. The vision is there is no longer a vision. I have moved on and am thankful for the skills I learned while at Verizon, and I’m appreciated. They have now become the most expensive and are not competitive. Hard to watch especially for those friends that are still there.

I worked there for nearly 20 years and left. Krista was a key decision maker that took support away from Indirect, removed commissions from retail, put leaders in place that managed upward only, removed scorecards, and removed all innovation from the front line. All decisions being made at HQ by people who didn't understand the field was the end of exceptional results at Verizon.

I knew VZ was in trouble when they created a model for new distribution that was terribly flawed. When we pointed it out, they didn't care. Essentially making it impossible for indirect to grow.

I sincerely hope they put in the proper leadership layers and start valuing leadership and results over other factors like they do today.

Still no announcement? Was this bs or true?

Krista is a loss. When she announced commission changes she dropped major hint on where to go if you wanted performance incentives. Didn’t sound like it was her idea to me. Now that she is gone no one in csuite understands front line. This place has become the opposite of its strengths 10 years ago.

If she was behind team commissions the firing was long, long overdue. If she was just forced to be the cheerleader and implement that disaster, then I'm surprised she hung in there that long.

KB leaving is a much bigger deal than some finance VP in Tulsa. She was the brains behind team commissions, all the stores sold off since her tenure began, the failed shift to digital first, elimination of local agents. All those decisions were on her and it's no surprise Sampath wants her replaced to try to turn it around.

That’s 2 VPs this week that are leaving - the other being a finance VP in Tulsa. Both were around for quite a few years. All the talent is leaving. Maybe they know something we don’t?

if Verizon ain't doing well you think the indirects are doing great. They are on life support selling hearing aids right now.

KB was not good with the plan to sell all of the stores off to local big indirects. She cares about people and jobs and is not good with that they are trying to do to fit the business.

There is a place for retail and physical stores. Our problems is that VZ still thinks they are a premium brand. The public views cellular as a commodity. They could give 2 cents about 5G and 6G. The public can’t tell the difference between LTE and 5G. VZ is more expensive and governed by Finance and a margin. Then KB and Hans wanted to create this euphoric community with team commissions while all the other carriers and our agents still have individual comp plans. ATT is growing their partner footprint. Tmo is reducing theirs and relying on company own stores. All three needs to invest in retail be selective with bricks and mortar. I was in a Corp store “I think” and it was busy not just w boomers. However, this was a fancy center w an Apple Store and restaurants. Go back to individual commissions. Stop over paying for VBG. Make the promos easy to understand. And F! Make the systems work! No reason for a customer to be in a store for 2hrs activating and paying for a phone. This isn’t buying a car from Carvana.

I notice that Verizon is firing a lot of high ranked women lately... Sampath will be the new CEO and he will outsource everything that's left, to India.

Maybe she had the vision to see where the store channel is headed, and bailed out before the house of cards comes tumbling down. Retail is yeterdays news, the majority of the masses shop on line now. VZ has DMs/ Managers, Asst Managers etc - on top of that you have the retail operations group, the VSG operations team and the outsource company who actually perfroms the work --- why? Think of all the money VZ could save!!! Heck putting lockers in our store - a store that last year struggled to stay open with no AC in Texas is not a win win. I think we are in for some major changes between now and the new year. It may be time to look at other opportunities -- no surprises its not unique to VZ. Krista was good people I wish her well

I mean she is like Cackles the Veep. Hired for the way she looks and not based on qualifications. But nothing can save cell phone stores. They are obsolete. No one I know buys a phone from a store. Just order online and swap your SIM.

Quite funny that she comes in and basically destroys consumer segment and retail as potentially nothing more than a Fall Guy ax woman when she was supposed to be this miracle colored woman that Rose the ranks from the mail room when in actuality she just let nothing but smoke be blown up her b hole not even realize that she was getting played like a fiddle

Krista is abandoning ship. It is no coincidence this announcement comes day after internal announcement of new plans that are designed as another cash grab. Hans and his merry band of id--ts are out of ideas, and only option now is to steal from the customers and employees pockets.
