Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Me right now !!!

Laid off and feeling lost,
What once was certain is now tossed,
The road ahead is unclear,
But know that hope is always near.

Let’s be completely honest here - H1Bs will continue to take away high paying jobs from Oracle ICs, and Oracle is encouraging this. If you think this is not the case, then you have your head in the sand. It’s been going on for years at Oracle, and there’s no end in sight. A truly corrupt practice.

One of the things I have noticed, and I believe my day is coming, is that Oracle management sometimes gets "tired" of people, and potentially gets "tired" of paying higher salaries and dealing with a confident personality that also brings technical competence. My work is being cut down and down so they can claim I do nothing. At the same time - of not giving me the work - the backlog gets bigger and bigger. Why do I mention this? I think some parts of companies still have the actual position you are being laid off from. In my case, I have no doubt that I will be laid off soon, but my position will still need someone in it. So with that in mind, they will probably hire a younger/cheerier/more agreeable person to fill my role and take care of the "backlog". So with that logic, while you might be laid off, I'm sure Oracle is not alone in this way of laying people off. Keep your wits about you, get things in order, and never look back. There will be a company that will see you as "fresh" and a "new face" eventhough the person they are filling the role for, was just someone they got "tired of". Make some (weird) sense?

I'm sorry this happened to you. Sadly this is today's reality, especially in tech. Here today gone tomorrow, in a flash.

I know it is a shock and you don't know what to do. First thing you need to do is apply for unemployment. Even if you don't need the money, apply for it. Bank it if you can. Second you need to do is decide which direction you want your next step to go. If you need to brush or acquire any skills, go to a place like Udemy and take some on -line courses. You can get some great on-line learning for at little as $20 a course. While you doing this, get your resume in line. Get a professional resume writer to help. It makes a big difference. Once you get this into motion, get on good relative places like Indeed and go to town. Set up regular searches and apply apply apply.

It's no fun but you can do this. Odds are you will find that you will end up in something even better than what you left.

Hang in there, keep digging and good luck. You can do this.

So sorry to hear. I wish they would offer voluntary packages, many would take them and it would be better for morale.

When life hits hard and falls apart
And dreams you had seem out of reach,
Hold on to hope and do your part
For new doors soon will come to teach.

Embrace the pain, let it fuel
The journey that can lead to success,
Chase your passion, be your own jewel
And you'll find your way to progress.

You're valued, talented, and strong
So rise again and chase your dream,
Believe in you and sing your own song
For you're destined for greater scheme.

This momentary setback is mere
A stepping stone towards the stars,
So keep faith, persevere
And you'll find new triumphs and memoirs.
