Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

It’s hard to stay motivated

If among those who get cut are many who worked really hard, while those who worked just enough to avoid getting into trouble survive, what kind of message does that send? They've cut a colleague of mine, who was a real pleasure to work with and also an expert in his field. It's hard to stay motivated and work hard after that.

I recently came across the formula on how my severance was calculated when I was laid off/terminated in August 2017. I was an IC. The formula may have changed since then.

  • 4 weeks pay for first year of employment
  • 1 week pay for every year after

Mine was taxed upfront. After taxes I netted about 60%.

I had to sign and return a stack of paperwork before I received it, including agreeing to never sue the company, including participating in class action lawsuits. Funny how this is one of the terms that still sticks out.

Good times.

There are many other jobs out there. Look in various industries. Medical technology is moving fast. Technology period is moving fast. You can get a good job with your experience that will train you for a better job.

The carrot vs. the whip: the carrrot works better for healthy people and a healthy company. Possibly you were at Oracle too long and abuse is what you know best . Please get help, you can rise above that and you can understand at some point the importance of being treated fairly and treating others fairly is a better life. Those that abuse need help and if they don’t they will self destruct.

Oracle was once a decent company but when treating customers and employees badly started and was not corrected then it became diseased. It’s a sad story really. if you can, please leave.

Money can help or money can hurt. In Oracke’s case it has hurt. The money accumulated from the past will not always be able to correct mistakes of present and future. Money can not always change health after it reaches a certain point.

Oracle has done this to themselves because they ignored middle mgmt when they became corrupt - like a tumor - and now middle mgmt is terminal. Hopefully Oracle will remove the tumor. If not then the tumor will grow and spread.

The corrupt behavior at Oracke is serious. The same is happening in the US govt and the consequences will be severe if, not corrected.

I had to be vaccinated, not by choice and it is a personal regret that I did not know better. Hindsight is 20/20. We had no way of knowing. There could be more viruses developed. A lot of money was made by COVID.. it’s a shame that money is more important to some than human life and/or health.

I have always been healthy and in good shape - healthy foods & exercise has always been important to me. MDs can find nothing wrong and I feel bad and have issues that I’ve never had. Nothing serious that anyone is aware.
My good friend from India has recommended a certain diet that will cleanse and hopefully in time things can be reversed. He too had mandatory vaccination and regrets but he feels much better than me but not 100%.

The world is very different, now. Things are shifting. Things might get worse before they get better. Let’s hope it has peaked or will soon. The housing market is in trouble. Many Mortgages are underwater or will be soon. Refinancing, taking money out and keeping same payment will have a price.
House values are correcting. Never
give up hope and do your best every day.
Save, do not spend and try to build wealth because retirement plans will take a big hit.

Oracle is not your life line and it is not for the corrupt VPs, either especially those that mistreated many. They will get what they deserve. We all do and will. It is not easy to stand up for what is right and against corruption but it pays off in the end.

Oracle is reorg’ing for a reason. It will not be the same company but it will be successful once they extract middie mgmt. They need to have the corrupt prosecuted (much like major surgery and ICU for then) so they don’t spread their disease anywhere else. Those that are not corrupt will find better jobs or hopefully will be able to stay and get promoted.

Dishonest people will not survive very long.

"What we see as a perfect employee or colleague may have performance issues we are unaware of."

Or they simply sent an email to a company list or thread with the wrong political tone. I have seen a couple layoff batches where that was the obvious reason, looking at the group as a whole. Sad to see a career derailed by something like that.

I left Oracle. It took years to wind down from the abuse, I missed it so much. Negative attention is powerful. Get out the whips, because the carrot on a stick only motivates for a short period. From the C-level.

Can they do without you or not? That's what it comes down to in the end, and it will get worse as time goes on because the economy has been destroyed as part of the controlled demolition ushered in thru the scamdemic.

Most companies junked the hard phones in favor of software phones ten years ago.

I don't even see the need for a soft phone for 90%. A cell phone is more than sufficient. If your is phone based that is different, but for a Project or program manager as I was, a cell was all I needed. Less junk on my desktop and one less phone number for people to remember.

People who b|tch and moan about vaccines and are alive and healthy (including their families) because of polio vax, TDAP, varicella, MMR, etc. crack me up.

Not all diseases are the same and not all "vaccines" are the same. Considering the risks and how ineffective the clot shot has been,I don't blame people for being hesitant. It's not effective and it's apparent risks are quite serious. Every medical treatment should be carefully evaluated on its own merit, with risks taken into consideration. the medical field from infallible. In fact, they are extremely fallible.

Then they nearly fire us over vaccines

That was the gooberment who wanted you fired for refusing the experimental vaccine. As soon as a court struck down the mandate as unconstitutional, O dropped it. There were many employers who still fired employees over this, even without a federal mandate.

I look at it this way. What we see as a perfect employee or colleague may have performance issues we are unaware of. I just keep it head down and do what I need to do to pay the bills.

The worst part is the pay system. I look at Blind and see people who are ic2 and ic3s getting double+ what I make. No raises, no bonuses, no RSus for years, and pay that is below what new hires get. Then they nearly fire us over vaccines, they take our office phones, they take our office trash cans, and they work from home while forcing employees to go in. It's in your face abuse.
