I haven't been here long and I'm already questioning whether I made the right move. There's so little work that I've been finding random things just to stay occupied. Which is in itself weird, since judging by this forum, people are generally overworked. I can't imagine sitting around like this for months and hoping things magically improve. I'm going to start looking elsewhere while I still have the choice.

The situation depends on the group. Poor managers, budgets, project schedules, and approvals undermine a steady pipeline or consistent use of staff. Avoid mentioning workload or emphasizing work you created, even as a director; like union environments, you may be viewed unfavorably. STS is known for this pattern. Conditions will not improve on their own or with regularity. I am sorry.
I also had to find tons of special projects to stay busy, it's crazy how little work there is in my org. everyone else just wants to work for 5 hours and do 35 hours of meetings lol. Take a look around the office and you'll see every single indian on some pointless 15 person call doing nothing lmao
Very little work sounds like a dream! Why would you even consider bailing out?
