The workload, uncertainty, and constant pressure pushed my stress far beyond what I could manage. I ended up on short term disability after experiencing blood pressure over 180, chest pain, and other physical symptoms. Please, be kind to yourselves and don't allow the same thing to happen to you. Pace yourselves. You don't need to work 60+ hour weeks, no matter what your manager says. You don't need to lose your weekends and holidays to work. They just want us to think that.

As someone who was laid off, I must say if you were there any appreciable amount of time (over 5 years we'll say) , the package allows you to look for new work at a reasonable pace. And more importantly, it gives you time to heal. I have been interviewing and getting stuff done around my house. It is nice to start rebuilding my dignity again.
That said, training the people who replace you is draining and tough. You just feel like a vessel meant to be emptied into a cheaper vessel and thrown into the garbage. You do not feel human, especially once it hits you that the people replacing you did not have to do much of anything to get your job. It all gets handed off to them. My self-esteem was in shreds the day I turned in my ID, etc. And the instructions said to take your stuff to a certain office on certain hours to turn in, but that office was not staffed. It all hit me then as I was ba----g on that door just trying to get my cr-p turned in, and I just started crying. I ended up finding someone from my team not leaving to give it to - a miracle considering it was a Friday. But, it was not lost on me how shoddily "the end" was handled. I guess in hindsight I should have requested "the box" be sent to me, but I didn't want it getting lost in the mail and face more "punishment" from them. I would suggest just mailing your stuff back should you find yourself in that situation. Good luck all!
@qt I know quite a few people who are hoping and waiting out for layoffs so they can get the package rather than quitting. Almost like wanting to volunteer. It’s so sad.
Is it better to quit or wait for the cuts? What is the payout for 5+ years?
Yikes. I also experienced stress-related chest pains from this job a few weeks ago. I am living quarter to quarter, half-hoping that I’m laid off next.
The same thing happened to me. T Rowe is a truly abysmal company to work for. The management are not kind, bullying leadership and some truly awful people. A 'jobs for life' culture creates vicious bullies. I too made the mistake of compromising my health, chest pains from stress followed, weekend work, very late nights. My former manager told me that she did not care that i was working Saturdays. A vicious woman who portrays herself as a beacon of proffessionialism. Such an awful Company to work for. Don't compromise your health for this dreadful firm.
Same thing happened to me. I had to spend the night in the cardiac ER . I tried to do everything right there as I valued my work and the opportunity. I was always up-skilling and always volunteering for new stuff to get involved in. There were a couple of times I worked over 24 hours straight. They thanked me for all of that hard work and caring by firing me, but not before making me train the replacements that will never work that hard for them. They don't have to. People need to prioritize themselves because any sacrifice you make will go unnoticed and unappreciated.
