I am not discriminating against India / Indians in any way. I am as brown as they come. All I am against is the bias in Teradata's policy to push out tenured people regardless of whether they add value / coasting. The CPO and his cronies have painted all existing folks with a red target on their faces and their behinds.
The bar to get meet expectations rating is exceptionally higher for existing folks when compared with the new employees. Thus purposefully making the system biased against existing employees. Working on new feature dev is easy, these cronies should try and manage a product thats been a stable workhorse for 40 years at some of our customers and it is these products that continues to drive the revenue regardless of whether it is on-premises or on cloud.

@pw SUN was bought by Oracle and Oracle was only hiring Indians. Teradata is following the same model. Hire the cheapest headcount possible to keep the lights on and dont even try for new customers.

@ey My many years of experience show that the offshore teams in India might think they work hard, but they have to be hand held and micromanaged by US team members. Being busy or working a lot of hours does not necessarily equate to being productive and efficient at the right things. I can make myself busy and a take a week to do something that another person can do in 2 hours. So I work hard, but not in the right way.

I can attest to slow production, sub-par quality, and lots of excuses from our coworkers in India. Why? I don't know. Cheap labor? Poor training? Poor management nd building of the work culture? I don't want to be personal and dehumanize anyone because I have met some nice people but the facts are the facts and data supports this. The output and quality from the India team is noncomparison.

This had become SOP at SUN when I was there near the end. May not have precipitated decline, but sure didn't help.

All Sumeet has done is aggressively cut people to lower cost as well as pushing AI usage to further cut down on cost. And aggressively off shoring to India while simultaneously pushing for RTO.

This guy's got it right. The goal is to have the grunt workers ie engineers be cheap ie in India and have management be in USA.

They networked to their benefit, It happens in every trade. Do you not notice the pattern in wheelchair assistants and cleaning crew in US airports? For large corporations the IT SWE hiring bias is very true, but they strictly follow labor laws. Offshoring is legal. Cultural fit is a thing.
The real issue IMHO is new hires may be asked to pay a share of their salary to the hiring chain. No idea why anyone will agree to that, but many do. Not saying SA does that. But professionally similar folks like SA, was caught in the act. This is a bigger issue than why Indians are taking our jobs? Liberty and justice for all.

@ey Postings don’t equate to hiring. Many companies post jobs they never intend to fill for various reasons.

@eq that isn't true look at the careers page for the USA. I see 26 open positions open right now. I also spoke to my skip and he said there's more hiring going on. Things are looking up, no need to discriminate against India. The overseas teams do drive harder than US based engineering and are more than willing to help out when things go wrong

For those who deny this or doubt this - New roles are open only in India. You will see postings here but the unwritten rule is to move dev / test/ ops to India to keep costs low. Potentially only DIR / SR. DIR / VP / SVP and above in US - exception being anyone that needs physical presence in USA due to regulatory needs.

Also, every quarter there's going to be layoffs to push tenured folks out and bring in supposedly fresh blood. Potentially upto 5% of folks could be replaced every quarter and the new roles would mostly open up in India unless otherwise it requires physical presence in any other country

It's been like this for a few years. White people aren't getting hired and the ones that are still working here get riffed and replaced by cheap foreign labor.

Indians especially hire their own and will always rule out white people during the interview process in the early stages.

Serious question, has Sumeet done anything of value since he joined? Its been a year now, and AI Factory launched, but other than TD press releases I havent seen a single reference to it anywhere.

If Teradata is not bias toward Indians, then where are the Mexico new hires??? Teradata consistently decreasing headcount for Caucasian, East Asian, and Hispanics — don’t get me started on Africans or African-Americans. There may be job openings in US, but they are not being filled. India is hiring every day! Deport Sumeet and throw Steve in jail for allowing this!

@cs Yes anyone can report Teradata for anti American bias. Ideally Teradata should be forced to justify why Ameicans are layed off and H1Bs replace them.

You need to make list of all non-Indians who are let go at product management and in Engineering. Then list all the new hires —directors and above, data will speak for itself if this is true.

Not only is it unfair, but it's also illegal and treasonous.

Trump signed an executive order on Friday that makes all new H1B roles under review by a government agency to make sure Americans arent being replaced by cheap labor. This also enforces Trumps 100k per new H1B fee.

Unfortunately diploma mills in India are still pumping out PHDs. Hopefully this is the next thing they go after. Once government is actually vetting new H1B requests and aquiring data they'll be able to better identify the fraudsters.
