Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

So much noise

I forgot how much noise, how much constant chatter, how many distractions there are at the office. I swear I was half as productive on the RTO days than I was when working from home, and I know there are many others in the same boat. Can somebody explain to me the logic of intentionally crippling the productivity of your entire workforce?

Worst thing ever was taking down the high walled cubes years ago. The noise level went up significantly, coupled with an increasing percentage of the workforce that is inconsiderate in terms of their noise levels.

I don't know when things changed as far as a respectful workplace. I started there in the 80s in my early 20s, and certain decorum was expected. Fast forward to circa 2015 and I started noticing a shift. I think accepted use of devices to listen to music or whatever was part of it. I put up with a girl that laughed all day like Flipper the dolphin, and another that laughed like a hyena watching comedy videos. There was a guy that put on headphones, but I could hear his angry sounding death metal anyway and he would "sing" along. Another woman would attempt to talk to people around her who had their backs to her and spout racist political garbage. No amount of complaining would sway my manager (I guess today they're called "leaders" 😂) from asking these people to keep it down. So I bought Bose noise canceling headphones and my manager had the audacity to tell me it made me appear " inaccessible" 🙄 I thank God for my last 18 months WFH and then the VBO that I was ready to take at the time.

Heard that another round of layoffs coming in September. Any idea which department or role they will be targeting now?

this is all by design to make us as miserable as possible. uncomfortable chairs, dull uninspiring cubicle workspaces, loud open floor plans with no privacy, campuses that are in the middle of nowhere to isolate you. the list goes on…

Professionally, it's aggravating to have to compete with the cumulative noise and disturbance and have clients turned off by it, and personally it becomes very overwhelming for those of us with sensory issues which then creates a drop in the quality of a product (which, in turn, also will be a detriment to the clients). But what do we know? We're just the ones on the ground doing the work. Super stoked to see the results of this bad decision.

I had a client call who asked me if I could go into another area because it was loud. I apologized and said I could not at the time. The client hung up on me. Can someone please promote Abby as soon as possible?
