Harvard College Dean David J. Deming described the recent summer layoffs as a "horrible" and difficult process. He stated that the Faculty of Arts and Sciences implemented these cuts to address a significant structural deficit. Despite the challenges, Deming expressed pride in the College staff for largely maintaining student-facing programming. He acknowledged that some programs were impacted, but emphasized that most remained intact. Deming believes the restructuring, which reversed some prior administrative decisions, was a responsible approach.
