Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Promotions

There is a plan being carried out to reduce promotions. Be ready to be offered only lateral moves at best or be given additional responsibilities with no CL promotion.

The target is to reduce CL 28+ 50% by 2030 and even more by 2033 through retirements, attrition, and PIPing.

Executives are exempt from these rules and will continue being promoted.

Technical Career Ladder employees are doomed.

@j4 this is happening a lot. People who in the past would be promoted to the next CL or given raises are being told they are at the top of their salary band.

@dz I am topped out and get very small raises even though I was ranked outstanding the last 4 years. I still come to work and do my best everyday.
I don’t agree with the majority of XOM’s policies or safety rules but what can you do.

@er don’t forget the safety people, planners, schedulers, and many more.

CL 28 and 29 is a very bad place to be especially if you are younger than 55. They aren’t promoting many to 28 and many are retiring so the assessment group just keeps getting squeezed every year. Much better to stay a CL 27

@d2 Those “useless people” are known by manager, advisor, architect and fellow titles depending on what organization you belong to.

@a6

since you’re such a high achieving needle mover with complete trust for corporate process to unbiased and fair, why don’t you tell your boss to rate your performance and shrink or grow your salary according to the results? or are you too scared to put some skin in the game, mr hipo corporate noodle slurper?

How are executives “exempt” if it’s CL28+? There’s a thinning of the herd throughout all levels.

@av I’m just tired of working with useless people that don’t bring any value to the company but expect to earn 200k+. I have always felt the company needs to reduce the salary jobs and lower their top pay. This is an oil and gas business not a white collar law firm or tech company. It is a lost concept in this country that you actually need to do work in order to get paid.

The guy who was previously in my role was CL29 and I’m CL25 with the same scope but no CL bump. Been in this job since last year so it’s not a new thing. When ask supervisor if I can expect CL match for doing more sh*t, they just say “will look into that” and never actually get back to me

You want to take away my 1st and sls please do. These guys broke up a good team for their own security. These guys have no clue of running a business or how to deal with manpower. Clean house on middle management please if you’re not going to bridge the gap on retirement for some folks. You are suffocating teams with these people!

This has been quietly happening to some extent already, but there's a huge push to chop way more CL28+ roles. For anyone earlier in your career or that is CL27 and below, there's gonna be a very tough ceiling. A few will pass through, but there will be far fewer opportunities than before.

And for those in CL28-29, the ranking and PIPing will thin the ranks, so you won't be spared either. DW is on a path.

I love this. As a company it makes zero business sense to keep overpaying for people that don’t actually make the company money.
