Campus Recruiting in USA

I am glad they did not ask me to participate in recruiting on school campuses this year.
I could not ethically tell students that a career at EM is a good choice.
I believe that nearly zero USA recruits starting now will survive the annual PIP layoffs long enough to retire.

Even very good employees can get PIP’d by a bad Supervisor, or by transferring into a tight group, or transferring out of a group that needs a mandatory PIP sacrifice, or just ending up with a boss that is intimidated because the employee knows more than him.

How can EM recruiters lie to students to convince them that EM is a career company?

@dw If you’ve been working there for 30 years and you have basic financial literacy, you should be a millionaire a few times over, and you are likely set up for a very comfortable post-retirement life. You’re also probably not doing much actual work beyond virtual meetings.

And stop saying that you “enjoy working” because everyone knows it’s total BS. You’re milking it and your bosses know it.

It’s not the problem of your employer to optimize your retirement portfolio. Sorry/not-sorry.

Ironic that EM is sending recruiters to campuses to tell students that EM is a great place to have a career, and at the same time giving mandatory ethics training in the BPR.

@cg wait until you are 50 and being pushed out of the company after 30 years of hard work. You think everyone has three homes? Not everyone is an executive. Try getting a new job in your 50s as age discrimination is real.

@OP It’s a good choice for someone with a pile of student loan debt who needs a healthcare plan. This is what most of them are looking for.

You old guys collecting salaries into the mid six-figure range with maxed-out 401ks and three homes really do need to get your brains around what reality is like for everyone under 50.

They deploy young engineers under 5 YOS to do this sh*t. Idk if they're getting voluntold but lots of them little brown nosers think that it'll get them a bonus or promotion, which it won't...

@OP A lot of people already know it all, but they tell themselves, “How bad could it get? I won’t be the one who gets PIP’d.” Or the money is good, or the brand name is shiny enough to make them ignore the risk. But when it happens, it happens — and by the time it does, it’s already too late to rationalize it away.
