Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

One company - Many Careers. What a load

In the hopes this page is monitored by some internal team somewhere for rumor control or something. This one company many careers message is complete hogwash. I've been applying for internal roles for years now, and every time I do I get the message back that I'm not being considered because I'm from a different BU, despite me having experience in the fields I'm trying to move to.

Internal moves are impossible, stop selling people this lie. It demoralizes people and, as a result, I'm not not even going to bother internally applying any more and you will lose me

@1q9 THIS! 100% THIS.

I've repeatedly everyone in my mgmt chain I need help in my new assigned role and not one motherf----ris will to do a damn thing.

Pretty sure its cuz they then would also have to admit what's going on is fu---d up and politically unacceptable.

When I joined Cisco I was told everyone is an open door and will help you. Now when I need help for my next role internally everyone could not give a single fu-k about you and throw you to the wolves.

cisco alteast does not do "Cold 6 AM Layoff Emails" with same day termination.

You prefer to meet your manager who is reading a script. A manager you told you in 1:1s how well you perform. Now he tells you straight in your face that you actually su-ked the whole time?

I would prefer a 6:00am email.

@11p true, but thought of getting surprise LR by email with immediate termination hits us differently (may be i am weak).

@100 They just love to pretend they are not "as bad" as other companies because they "give you an opportunity" to find a new role... Which we all know is BS, you won't find anything as you're blacklisted once you're targeted in a layoff. The only way you can get a new role is by having friends way up high that are willing to make a case for you with the sacred cows that run the company.

They are just giving you a few more days of severance as paid non working days, only fools in denial work after they've been notified.

@zk good or bad cisco alteast does not do "Cold 6 AM Layoff Emails" with same day termination... may be its just a matter of time for cisco adopting this style of Layoffs.

@f6 just cuz there isn't a law correcting this action doesn't make it ok either.

Btw, funding comes from Finance/HR. Not VP. They VP builds justification. HR holds the approval for the additional (or replacement) HC with guidance from Finance.

FK hates you.

1.1B lives "impacted" ... really? Good or bad? Prove it!

"If you advertise a job, there should be a job to apply for. If it's already spoken for, I'm 99% sure it's illegal to list"

You assumed wrong. There are no laws regarding posting & interviewing for jobs. You could put a candidate through rounds of interviews... the recruiter/hiring manager might not even be aware the role doesn't have official funding from a VP.

Cisco thinks you can do (and will be happy) doing what the fu-k ever role they assign you. Despite YEARS of FK telling everyone to find a path you are passionate about and follow it. Now.. "fu-k your career goals pawn, do what the fu-k we assign you do to". Anyone else notice the clear "mobility" statement in the stupid-a-s AI webex checking bot?

I’m in business of hiring and I can confirm it’s a whole lotta BS. These so-called hiring managers of these roles want someone who can do beyond what the job scope wants, but are completely incapable themselves. So yes, unfortunately the one company many careers is whack.

i'm in my third role already - you need to reach out to the manager that has the open req

Manager names are not listed on internal reqs, anymore.

@ac That's d-mb. These aren't jobs heard of on the grape vine. They're advertised on the internal careers site. If you advertise a job, there should be a job to apply for. If it's already spoken for, I'm 99% sure it's illegal to list. At least in many jurisdictions, not everywhere works on nepotism like the USA does. Any jobs need to be open for application to anybody. You can say that's a sham, but it shouldn't be.

Also I was tipped off by an HR person that some reqs might not have official funding from the VP. You can post jobs and interview without official funding.

The req doesn't have to be setup for you, but you should have established a relationship prior to applying. You have to understand that anywhere from 50 to a few hundred people are applying for open reqs. Obviously the hiring team will start with the people they know. Feel free to disagree, but this is how all hiring works everywhere.

OP, sadly you're too immature to accept that you are the architect of your reality, and instead, you mistakenly assume the system is broken.

The 'one company, many careers' idea is absolutely true when you understand how things work and actually plan your next role or two.

There’s never any internal moves unless you know someone who’s already set up the req for you
