@ax the difference in salary is why heritage upstream employees are being forced out in favor of cheaper downstream employees. It is also why upstream employees are seeing their compensation stagnate. They are using low raises to drive your compensation down to match the downstream pay curve or to get you to quit. Either one works for them.

@bd how is getting to 28 not hard? Almost everyone I know retires as a CL27 or 26.

@bd historically yes. Going forward getting to 28 will be almost impossible.

High coveted CL28

As a CL28 I have to say the problem is that the real goal is to retire and 10 more years to 55 or 20 to 65 seems nearly impossible at this point

@b4 PHD s fresh out of college are hired with CL24 or 25 so getting to 28 at 45 is not really hard

The more important question is what the future holds - both on terms of salary and number of promotions to 28. Likely not good.

The CL-28 range is very broad. Salary can range between $180K to $300K depending on your history and whether you were in the Upstream Company, EMRE Technology, Downstream Refining and Supply, or Chemicals and more specifically which Global Business Unit you were in each company.

Upstream is higher followed by Downstream. Chemicals GBU's historically were on the low end of the salary curve.

Not sure what it is now since we are supposedly a combined CL curve for everyone regardless of whether you came from Upstream, Downstream, or Chemicals.
