There was no storm
If there’s a storm coming and my supervisor is acting dubious and inconclusive, and there’s no adequate communication in place - I’ll just take Personal time or whatever needs to be done from my standpoint, to stay safe or to make it safe to or from work. Better to ask for forgiveness, than for permission - especially with adversities from Mother Nature. Don’t get stranded trying to play corporate mouse and avoid PIP, you’ll get it no matter of this event if it’s in your cards. :)

There was a time when supervisors would just tell everyone to work from home if they were office based. That was a long time ago.
The new way is to leave it ambiguous so they can hide behind the email if something bad happens while letting the threat of the annual PIP hang over you causing you to take unnecessary risks like driving to work during a tropical storm. And for what? Is the company really in such a fragile state that one day go WFH will crash the stock?
