I started in IT 24 years ago and was surprised nobody on my team put in more than 4 hours a day.
By the time my last 2 years with HCL came around, I was doing an hour a day of "real" work. The rest was watching g-nsmoke or doing yardwork.
SF was kind enough to supply me with headphones that reached 40 ft from my laptop, so I could just listen for a ping for an email, or be in a "meeting" I created for myself or coworkers to show "activity".
Our IT function is going to shed the 9-3 Bloomington nepo babies that know more about lawn care and failed diets than IT. Gravy train is over and 10 years too late.

28 year ET employee who just milks the pension and can't even write a line of code before chatgpt.
I had a horrific colleague, 17 years of java experience and couldn't even do a simple clone of a repo as a software engineer without handholding from a mid level engineer. The jokes write themselves on how these terrible "experienced" people retain their jobs to milk the system.
@cy It really is sad when a person talks like that about associates. Cold day in h e l l I will ever consider myself better than anyone else in the world. People who do that are ill.
