This article is old but new to me. Is this still happening? How much money is spent each year on personal travel on the corporate jet? How much is spent for executives to commute to work (I don't include travel to necessary off-site meetings as commuting.) How much is spent on other items that the man-on-the-street would find shocking, excessive, ridiculous?
When a company is eliminating jobs chasing $1B in savings EVERY expense should have been up for review. When that same company decides to chop off one of its business arms and again, eliminate jobs, all expenses should be reviewed.
When "everyone" in a 53,000 employee company is worried about their job, seeing smaller and smaller bonuses, and mentally and emotionally exhausted from the stress and worry about their financial well-being except those in the C suite, "Houston we have a problem".
A good leadership team will make sure there is transparency in these difficult decisions. A great leadership team will evaluate all expenses and enact cuts and reductions everywhere ...as is appropriate, and ensure the C suit is contributing to the goal. We understand cuts and reductions to C suit benefits and perks might be hard to process and these are difficult decisions but they need to be made. These cost reductions would result in a stronger company and position the organization to remain a strong performer.
