Pros

Good benefits and nice perks at West Creek - that's about all I can say...

Cons

(1) Raises, bonuses, and promotions are based on how others view you instead of the quality of the work that you do - if you are a good "politician", then you will excel here. This leads to people being promoted into people management positions that have no idea what it takes to really manage people. Rewarding people who do nothing but socialize with higher ups is not the way to run an organization.
(2) Very stressful environment where backstabbing and politics are common - I was placed on a PIP because I asked to change managers and the PIP contained untrue information about my work performance. After my PIP was completed and I did everything I was told to do, I was told that I didn't meet expectations and let go - with a huge severance and the option for re-hire. This is due to the fact that they knew I could sue them for gender discrimination and disability discrimination (I ended up having to go on stress medication due to the bullying I endured at Capital One). Severance letter released me from being able to file legal action. In my entire career, I have had better than satisfactory performance reviews and have been promoted over and over again - I have never been written up for performance in my entire life until now. They have trashed my reputation and my career.
(3) This company has a known reputation for being a horrible place to work. When I mentioned my experience to people who don't work at Capital One (such as my doctor), their reply is always that they have heard this happening several times with other people.

Advice to Management

Wake up! You can't run an organization based on popularity versus actual work performance. I had a manager actually tell me "I can make sure you end up in the bottom 20% in calibrations (performance reviews) and ruin your brand in the organization." Another manager told me that calibrations were based on "20% work performance and 80% of how others perceive you." And you wonder why people are running away in droves? These are your managers talking here...Get some managers in there with actual management experience that know how to lead a team effectively!

Performance calibrations to do distribution and stack rankings is the fault of their exec and HR teams. They caused this churn and headache to the entire company.

I had an army person on my team, and his manager wanted to put lies in his feedback, she wanted me to be on her side but I refused to play game with her and defended him. She backed off but complained to my manager, it was her way to bully me, I suffered the consequences. You will be bullied, taunted and your life will be a he-l and stressful, and the people who this to you are elevated an promoted. Yes. you guessed right, the person in question got promotion too!!!!

I could have written that post. Similar happened to me. Manager put me on a PIP, but it was more like nitpicking and harassment. After the Pip was over, I was told that I still didn't meet expectations and that I was being released.
Mind you, like the glassdoor reviewer mentioned, I had never had anyone complain about me or my work, and had never been on a PIP plan. Everything written was embellished by the manager to get me gone.
She may have won there, but she didn't keep me down, and of course,
h/r sat there passively silently, letting her have her way. To all of these rotten managers out there trying to ruin lives, just know that one day it will all catch up to you. Maybe not now, but one day your day will come.

This is an 8 year old review and things written in that review still holds true, C1 has not made any progress it is because the top management is still the same. The fear is so deep rooted that nobody says anything. Everyone is just protecting their jobs. They do not know that one day they will also get fired. I remember the poem “First They came” that I read in Holocaust museum. To the C1 employees and management please speak up!!

And "woke" not because they truly believe in justice and equality amongst employees but jusr to meet an EEOC checkbox. They don't care about fairness they really ain't "woke" just that they "spoke" and it's nonsense as their actions show the opposite of fairness and is hypocritical.

Words to describe this place are: incestuous nepotism, harassment, and gaslighting, criminality, and Mafia.

I wish I had seen this review before I accepted the offer, , I would have never joined Cap 1, the experience has been so harrowing, lost self confidence, currently in therapy, this place has ruined my happiness and mental peace, will never encourage anybody to join this place.

This happened with me as well, I was given below strong rating and garbage was put in my improvement plan, when I complained they refused to take it out, VP even made fun of me. C1 is trash, to survive you have to:

  1. Kiss manger’s a—
  2. S—ck up to them
  3. Sing praises of your manager in different meetings even when they do not deserve it
  4. Give stupid presentations in different forums
  5. Use your skin color, race and faith to get ahead
  6. Do your manager work and let them take credit of your work
  7. Go to happy hour drink and flirt with your manager and others
  8. Be a spy, feed your manager smallest of the information about others
  9. Send points and gifts to your manager

You see the talent does not even figure on this list, this place smells of toilet. Feel free to add to this list

Based on the Glassdoor review posted in 2014, see below in quotes, this must be true. I was told by a newer manager and she and I definitely weren't there in 2014 tell me that I was "ruining my brand." No idea what that meant at the time. This was based on calibration discussions during closed door distribution or stack ranking sessions, in which managers that I didn't report to, said things about me in a group. I don't know who those people are. They use that phrase "ruin brand" to mean that these calibrators have set out to smear employees out of spite and vindictiveness. How would a new manager from outside C1 know how to repeat this phrase? It's because during calibrations sessions managers use that term a lot amongst themselves, and use stack rankings as a form or retribution and retaliation to "ruin the brands" of employees.

I'd be indifferent if it were recent but the fact we hear the same things from decades and years ago and how eerily it mirrors present day should give one notice. These are not imagined slights and readers can't be gaslit because this sounds too close to home.

She said a manager who participates in the calibrations threatened to put her in the bottom 20% and did so. Another manager said that performance calibrations are 20% of work and 80% of how others perceive you. It sounds like harassment and bias turned to retribution to me.

For those currently in redeployment do you really want to work at Capone again? Capital One is Al Capone now we know why it's called the "Richmond Mafia."
